Doohamlet GFC Notes

Seniors:  Doohamlet  0  09   Latton  0  08

Doohamlet continue to defy the odds and gained another two valuable league points against a highly fancied Latton side on Sunday evening last.

After celebrating the wedding of star midfielder Ciaran Mc Manus on Saturday Doohamlet had less than 24 hours to prepare for this game but great credit to the players and especially the McManus brothers who all played starring roles in this victory. To add to our distractions Ted Duffy and Mark Murphy were ruled out after picking up injuries on Friday evening at training.

Doohamlet started brightly and missed a couple of chances before Barry McGinn opened the scoring with a 25metre free. Colin Walshe added a second with a fine point from play. Owen Duffy opened Lattons account with three good points and then points four and five for Latton sandwiched a missed goal chance by Greg Duffy. Shane McManus closed the first half scoring leaving Latton leading by the minimum at half time Latton 0  05 Doohamlet 0  04.

The home side drew level straight after the break with a pointed free from Barry McGinn but with both defences now very much on top scores were now at a premium.

Doohamlet suffered a major blow when Niall J. was shown a straight red card and Latton were now expected to push on with numerical advantage Not So!

The home side raised their game to another level and with Greg Duffy and Plug McManus immense in midfield drove Doohamlet forward and the irrepressible Barry Mc Ginn kicked points with his right and left foot. Shane McManus and Johnny Duffy added points to open a four point gap and suddenly Latton were in trouble.

In a hectic last 5 minutes Martin Hughes Colin Walshe Kevin McArdle Jason McElroy and Gabie Casey repelled everything Latton fired at the home defence and could not find the crucial score they needed. A couple of pointed frees proved too little too late as the final whistle sounded and Doohamlet incredibly had won by 1 point and deserved their victory simply for their refusal to accept defeat.

Also the return of another fine prospect Philip Mone after injury was another bonus.
