Senior Football

In the Intermediate League we played Aughnamullen last week on Wednesday night in what would be our last game before the break for the Monaghan championship games against Antrim. In a keenly contested first fifteen minutes Currin edged in front and went three points ahead. By half time Currin were in total control leading 1-6 to 0-1, the goal coming from Dick Clerkin. Fifteen minutes into the second half, the game was effectively over, as Currin piled on the pressure and combined with a few injuries for an obviously depleted Aughnamullen left Currin leading by 2-12 to 0-3 with Jack and Stephen scoring at will. Conor Mc Caffrey had his best game to date for Currin at full back against our opponents best player and Sean Brady was also commanding in defence. The game ended with Ben nonchalantly and sinistropedally scoring from wide on the right to leave the final score, Currin 2-13 Aughnamullen 0-4.  Team and scorers:- Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady, Conor Mc Caffrey, Enda McCaffrey, Ben Clerkin, (0-1), Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Gerard O Callaghan, Dick Clerkin, (2-1), Francis O Callaghan,  Dara Brady, Kieran Kearns, (0-1),  Paddy Mc Dermott, Niall McEntee,  Jack Mc Carron, (0-6),  Stephen Smith, (0-4), Subs used, Shane O Connor for Kieran Kearns. Ryan Beattie for Dick Clerkin, Jonathon O Connor for Paddy Mc Dermott.

U 12’s. Last Saturday our Under 12 team  travelled to Eire Og for what was the first ever competitive game for a lot of our young team. From the start the lads took the game to Eire Og with Tiarnan Kearns breaking forward from center half back at every opportunity and dictating the game for long periods, James Mc Quaid who was outstanding got our first  score with a fine point, Eire Og tagged on a few scores before James and Jack Mc Quaid got a goal each, but we were still two behind at the break. With only the bare eleven our options were limited. Eire Og got a goal shortly after the break. Our keeper Shane Duffy could do nothing about it. From the kick out our captain Conor Smith fielded a great ball and layed it off to Tiarnan who slotted over the bar. The lads pushed on and were rewarded with a goal from Jack which left only 1 between the teams. Both teams exchanged points with Eire Og having the final say  to finish the game on a score line of Eire Og 3:9 Currin/Clones 3:7. Team and scorers, Shane Duffy, Danny Mc Quaid, Finn Clerkin, Tiarnan Kearns(0:5), Hugh Mc Donald, Jamie Mc Quillan, Conor Smith(0:2), James Mc Quaid (1:2),Jack Mc Quaid (2:0), Matiu Monaghan, Regan Graham..

Jack and Danny

There are some fantastic photos in circulation of  many prominent Gaelic football stars lining up to get their photos taken with our two young stars. It is believed that they are going to have their own special section in the GAA museum.

Come Dine with me.

At a meeting last night, Wednesday,  it was ‘full steam ahead’ for our Gathering weekend in August with the announcement of our ‘Come Dine with Me’. Full details later.

Ladies Football

Congratulations to Ellen Mc Carron who added  another medal to her collection at the weekend. This time it was another Interprovincial medal with Ulster who captured the M Donnelly interprovincial title with a last gasp win over Connaught in Kinnegad. P.S. What about the referee!
