ULSTER JUVENILE FINALS

The Ulster Juvenile Finals took place last Saturday in Kingscourt. Monaghan had a fabulous showing in the finals. Unfortunately, due to recent illness, some of our most promising players were unable to hit form, but the experience of an Ulster final will stand to them in the long run. It wasn’t all disappointment though as Eoghan Mc Ginnity from the Harps won the u/11 singles, Jakup Szkup & Konrad Kowal won the u/11 doubles and Ramunas Ramanauskas won the u/17 singles.
EMYVALE HANDBALL
Darren Doherty and his doubles partner Conall McCavitt (Armagh) won the Mens A One Wall doubles Competition at UCD last Saturday.  The pair powered through the opposition on the day to win the title defeating Paul Fitzpatrick and his partner M. McGowan in the final.  A great win for the Monaghan / Armagh pairing who were the youngest to take part on the day.
MELLANS HANDBALL

All Ireland Semi-Final. Congratulations to Michael McCarron who won his All Ireland semi final in the “Diamond Masters A Singles” in Eugene Quinns in Armagh Sunday past, there he defeated Pat Buckley from Cork 21-7 21-5, yet another All Ireland final awaits, well done luck Mickey and good luck in the final, date time and venue will be published when we get all the details.

Juvenile Ulster Competition. Hard luck to Gary Treanor(T) who lost in the U16 Ulster doubles final last weekend with Conor Mohan from Tydavnet, they down to a strong pairing from Tyrone 21-10 21-4 hard luck boys.

Adult County Junior Final. Eamon Todd’s Junior Final still hasn’t been rearranged but when we get the new fixture we will text out to club members so all can travel to support.

Adult County Doubles. The county doubles are running so we ask all club members to ensure that all games are fulfilled, if any player can not make a fixture please ensure that the opposition know prior to original fixtures please.

Adult Club Competitions. There are still some outstanding fixtures in the club competitions and we would ask all players to make a special effort to get all games played to avoid a back log thank you.

GAA Teams. There are still a few outstanding games to be played in the GAA leagues but at this stage the “A” and “B” teams are looking like semi-final positions, but the “C” team slipped after an explosive start to the campaign, but never mind boys the experience will lead to greater things in the future.

Juvenile County Doubles. A list of the doubles both girls & boys that are entered into the county doubles for our juveniles is on display at both alleys so get practicing for the competitions as it is just around the corner.

Three Ulster Titles for Harps

Eoghan Mc Ginnity, Jakub Szkup, Konrad Kowal and Ramunas Ramanauskas are now the proud holders of Ulster medals following outstanding victories at the Ulster Juvenile Finals held in Kingscourt on Saturday. Furthermore, Justas Dambinskas, Cailean Myles and Hubert Sheinbach surprised many by taking their respective Tyrone opponents to tie break deciders.  Martin Mullen’s final did not go ahead.
Eoghan Mc Ginnity’s victory in the Under 12 Singles was remarkable in that he beat the Triple World medal winner Lorcan Mc Bride from Tyrone over three outstanding games.  Having lost the opening game by 15 points to 8, Eoghan pulled off an astounding comeback to level the match 15 -10 and finish off as champion by winning the crucial tense tiebreak by 15 points to 9.  This result will rank as one of his best in a long list of achievements since taking up handball.
The Under 12 Doubles title was won by Jakub and Konrad who defeated another fancied Tyrone pairing, Dara Curran and Cahir Monroe.  This was a two-game victory by 15-2, 15-6.  Ulster coaches present heaped much praise on Jakub Szkup for displaying all the skills of the game with particular mention of his control of the court and his excellent passing shots.
Spare a thought for Justas Dambinskas who took the opening game in the Under 13 Singles final against Cormac Monroe but eventually lost in the third.  Justas is well-known in juvenile handball circles as a dedicated skillful player and he will have been gutted to miss out on the title.  Cailean Myles and Hubert Sheinbach were runners-up in the Under 13 Doubles final but not before coming close to causing a major upset by taking game 2 against Anton Fox and Darragh Canavan.
Ramunas won the Under 17 Singles final in straight games against Donegal’s Cormac Muldoon and he now must prepare for his All-Ireland Semifinal.
Terry wins All-Ireland Semi
Terry Mc Elvaney’s winning streak continued last week at the Limerick venue of Cappagh when he defeated one of the top players at Under 21 level, Clare’s Jamie Lynch. This victory was achieved over 2 close games and puts Terry into the final against Galway’s Martin Mulkerrins who has won many major National and International competitions .  In fact Martin is just back from the USA having won the Collegiate competition for the second year in a row.  Monaghan Harps club is proud to see Terry reaching this final and he will relish the opportunity to take on such a star player.
