HARPS HANDBALL

Juvenile Presentation

Kilkenny legend Michael Duxie Walsh was the guest star at the Juvenile presentation on Saturday. It was fitting that the Liam Mc Carty Cup was present also. The attendance heard of Duxie’s dedication to training and his willingness to travel to clubs around the country to support the coaching of young players. He was full of praise for the work being done to introduce handball to so many boys and girls in Monaghan.  He heard about the numerous successes in 2012 and was introduced to our World medal winners, our National One-Wall champion, our county champions and the gold medal winning squad at the National Community Games finals. He was delighted to hear that there are several girls now playing handball for club and county and was pleased with their performances in the recent Ulster matches. He wished the new players every success especially in preparation for the next World Championships in Canada in 2015.
Fixtures
Weekend 1 of the Adult Ulster finals begins for our players on Saturday in Loughmacrory, County Tyrone. Our juvenile county players are involved in Kingscourt on Sunday in the Ulster Semifinals with the goal of reaching as many Ulster finals as possible on Saturday March 9th.

MELLANS HANDBALL

Table Quiz. We would like to thank all who came out last Friday night week to support the handball club at their annual table quiz, we had a total of 27 tables which was brilliant to see, even at that number of tables a lot of people apologised in advance as they had other arranged dates on the night and we would thank them and others for donations they forwarded, we would also like to thank all who help out in any way with the quiz building up to it or on the night itself, also a special word of thanks to Bridget and Ann who helped with the food, it goes to show the education system has worked well as the teacher out foxed the students with the questions, as through out the whole night on only

2 occasions 2 tables got full marks so a special congrats must go to Mickey Todd on the arrangement and the organisation of the questions, and now we all know what a cat is after 6 years old, finally a word of congratulations must go to the adult winning team consisting of  Francis, Niall, Prioncsas and Paddy and also to thank them for the donation , and congrats to the winning juveniles of Maebh, Sarah, Emma and Siobhan, well done girls.

Cuman Na Munscoil. On the Cuman Na Munscoil reports 2 weeks ago I mislaid my notes on the U11 girls where the club had 3 girls making the U11 finals, in the singles we had Emma Kelly who represented Knockconan and was brilliant in making the final but just lost out to Louise Mc Ginnity of St.Marys, in the U11 doubles we had Aoife Maguire & Eythna Boyle who represented Clara Ns and these girls went step further reached the final and won it, congratulation Aoife and Eythna, well done to all the girls and sorry for the mistake on not reporting you all with last week’s notes.

Adult County Championships. The adult Singles Championships are reaching final stages with only one club member reaching the final in Eamon Todd as he is in the Junior final, Ian Treanor and Michael Treanor lost their Nov1 semi-finals, Paul Mc Kenna lost in the Nov2 semi final and John Treanor also bowed out of the Nov3 and at the same stage of competition, so hard luck to all the losers but good luck to Eamon in his final.

Ulster Finals. Good luck to Michael McCarron who plays in the Diamond Masters A Singles final in Beragh this Sunday at 3pm where he takes on David Mulhern from Donegal, also lets hope that Padraig Mc Kenna gets reinstated into the U21’s where hopefully he will be playing Conor Mc Elduff from Tyrone for a place in the final against Terry Mc Elvaney from the Harps. Good luck to other county players that have made it to Ulster Finals.

Adult Club Competitions. All players keep an eye on texts, emails and down at the alleys for fixtures of the clubs Singles & Doubles competitions in both divisions as they are about to start, all fixtures must be fulfilled on the date stated.

Juvenile County Doubles. A list of the doubles entered into the county doubles for our juveniles is on display at both alleys so get practicing for the competitions as it is just around the corner.
