Aviva Stars

Last night, Wednesday, young up and coming Currin stars, Jack Mc Quaid, Danny Mc Quaid, James Mc Quaid, Tiernan Kearns and Sarah Fay lit up the Aviva stadium  with their silky skills at half time during the international friendly match between Ireland and Poland. Playing in front of such a big crowd was a marvellous experience for these youngsters. This  opportunity was arranged by former Currin and Monaghan G.A.A. star, Diane Fay. Congratulations to all concerned.

Boxing

A huge congratulations to Terry Mc Entee who has been blazing a trail in the boxing world all over the country. County, provincial and national recognition have come Terry’s way in recent weeks in this the toughest of all sports.

County Football

Well done to all Currin players involved last weekend. Our men, Dick, Jack, and Stephen had a great win over Meath in the N.F.L. and Jack in the U21’s over Tyrone in the Shamrock Cup. ‘Skipper’ Ellen led her troops to a great win over arch rivals Cork also in the N.F.L. A good weekend for Monaghan and Currin, well done to all.

Of the Booze,on the Ball.

Seventeen brave souls participated in our second  annual Clones – Scotshouse run on Saturday morning last. This year’s winner, Shane Brady, covered the 7.7km in a mightily impressive 28 minutes. Special mention must also go to Niall McEntee, who shaved the guts of 10 minutes off his 2012 time. ‘Baha’? More like ‘Mo Farah’! Much respect for the lads who braved the elements, and all those who abstained during the month! This is a great initiative, providing a wonderful kick start to the new year/season. David is now collecting the sponsorship cards, and don’t forget, sponsors are still welcome.

Patsy Mc Guirk, R.I.P.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of lifelong Currin club member, Patsy Mc Guirk, Clonshanvo, who passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday last. Patsy played for Currin at a time when great sarcrifices had to be made to play our games and he continued to support Currin G.F.C. at every opportunity, especially through our club Lotto. Patsy took particular delight in Currin’s successes in the Dr Ward Cup in 2004 and 2009. Currin club members were privileged to form a Guard of Honour at his funeral on Tuesday last. We extend our sympathy to his wife Katie, and to his brother Bennie and to his extended family and friends.  Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.

Mary Mc Philips, R.I.P.

The Connons area of our club suffered another great loss with the sad passing of Mary Mc Philips, Cloncallick. We extend our sympathy to her family, in particular to her son Patrick who played for Currin in his younger days and to her daughters Mary Catherine and Bernie. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
