MELLANS HANDBALL

Club Juveniles. We held the juvenile club finals Tuesday evening past, first into the alley were Gary Mohan & Finbar Mc Ginn finalists in the Everton League, this tussle went the way of Gary as his positional play and hand work was exceptional but Finbar never give up and battled well but went down 15-2, 15-5, next in were Ciara Treanor & Maebh Mc Cluskey who topped the Liverpool League, this was a brilliant game as 2 well balanced players fought for every point and it was tit for tat through out but Ciara claimed both games and the title 15-13,15-12, next in was the Man Utd League toppers of Shauna Mc Aree & Nicole Mc Carron, Nicole battled back well in the first game but lost her way in the second going down 15-5, 15-0 but never the less both played well, following that entered James Mc Kenna & Aaron Mohan the high fliers of the Newcastle League, the U14 county champion Aaron took the first game 15-9, but James re-grouped settled things down and took the second 15-10 forcing a tie-breaker, Aaron took the 3rd game in a comprehensive win 15-1, even James lost his way in thee 3rd game very little separated these 2 players, after them entered the Chelsea toppers of Sean Bouge and Kalum Mc Kenna, Kalum took both games 15-5 15-10 and as the scores suggest Sean was closing the gap as the games progressed, the Wigan final was between Fergal Rafferty and Pearce Mc Kenna, Fergal was victorious in this on 15-4, 15-3 as his shot selection out foxed Pearce on both games, the Arsenal League final was the battle of the Ryan’s, Ryan Harnet took on Ryan Treanor, but it was the Harnet end that took the title as his experience showed and he won15-0, 15-6, and the last league final was the Manchester City League which involved Cian Maguire and Ronan Boyle, this was only the second final that needed a tiebreaker and there was nothing to separate both players but it was probably Cian’s power play that made the difference and he won on a score line of  15-5, 12-15, 15-5, all finalists winners and runner’s up must be commended on their reaching the finals and on how they all performed. There was a brilliant attendance of players, parents and budding new handballers down for the finals which was brilliant to see and by the evidence of play and support on show on Tuesday evening St.Mellans Handball is in good health and long may it continue.

We are at the moment trying to organise a new type of league for the juveniles so please be patient as we finalise the details, we will be looking at running off some inter club blitz’s during the coming months also, please all players keep practising on your own time until these events are organised. The beginners will also be back on Saturday evenings starting this Saturday coming the 12th, normal times 5 and 6pm, all new comers welcome, 5 Euro registration fee.

Table Quiz. We are running our annual Table Quiz tomorrow night week Friday the 1st of February in St.Mellans all support would be very much appreciated, some fun and food in store, would all the captains of the Mono League insure that all of their team members have been notified about the table quiz and all bring or at least be part of a table, the usual suspects will probably be there to defend their title, a black jeep a white van and a couple of red cars were spotted at Eirrgal, the re-vision books must be out .

Adult County Championships. All details of all adult championships are on the notice board behind the glass alley, would all players please check all fixtures and make sure all games are played, if some fixtures are to be played earlier or later please contact your opponent.
