January 23rd, 2013

Congratulations to Fintan Kelly and the rest of the Monaghan squad on reaching the final of the Dr. McKenna cup.  Firstly, against Fermanagh on Wednesday night last in Inniskeen, Monaghan were ahead after a low-scoring first half, 0-5 to 0-2, they improved considerably in the second half as they added to their advantage. Fintan put in a sterling display at half back, bursting through with support runs he even managed to get his name on the score board to leave a final score of 1-12 to 0-7.  Then against Down on Sunday where Fintan was called upon from the subs bench after twenty minutes in a much more tightly contested game where the teams were level on eight occasions.  Monaghan kicked the last three points to go through; two brilliant long range scores from inspirational Scotstown man Darren Hughes sealed the win 1-12 to 0-13.  Their toughest test to date will be against that old chestnut Tyrone in another final, surely we can beat them in one final?? Here’s hoping.  we’ll find out this Saturday in the Athletic Grounds Armagh, throw in 7:30pm.  All Under 16’s GO FREE, general admission €10 Senior Citizens and Students €5.
