DOOHAMLET GFC NOTES

Ulster Semi Final;    Doohamlet  0  08    Cookstown  1 06

Doohamlet long successful season finally came to a heart breaking end on Sunday last as we went down by a single point in this Ulster semi-final played in Brewster Park Enniskillen.

Cookstown went into this game as clear favourites and duly started brightly scoring 1 01 in the first six minutes. However after all their pre match hype it was Doohamlet who dominated the remainder of the half constantly over turning possession and attacking at will. Paul McArdle opened our account and further scores from Shane McManus (2) Darren Connolly and Colin Walshe saw us go in at the break leading by one 0 06 – 1 02 and indeed should have been more with a number of other chances spurned including a goal chance by Shane McManus

Ted Duffy opened the scoring in the second half with a well taken free kick but then Cookstown hit a purple patch scoring three unanswered points. Doohamlet trailed by two as we entered the final quarter and were dealt a cruel blow when the referee after consulting with his umpires dismissed Martin Hughes for an off the ball incident. Doohamlet players to their credit forced Cookstown back and after wave after wave of attacks saw us reduce the deficit to one. With Cookstown out on their feet Doohamlet searched for an equaliser but try as they might they could not get that elusive score. Chance after chance went a begging with balls dropped short, wrong options taken and free kicks hitting the woodwork Doohamlet just could not get that equalising point and take the game to extra time the least they deserved.  When the referee sounded the full time whistle Doohamlet players fell to the ground knowing their Ulster dream had died and Cookstown headed to their dressing room very relieved to have come through such a game.

Doohamlet Players and Management can hold their heads high. They have given us so much enjoyment all year and on Sunday last they just fell short after a mighty effort. Everyone knows you need that little bit of luck which clearly deserted us on Sunday last.

We thank our trainer Davy McGregor, Gerry McElroy and all our Sponsors and everyone behind the scenes who make all run smoothly.

Finally we thank You our supporters who have followed us all year and we hope to see you again next season as we rub shoulders with the big boys of Monaghan Senior football.

Come Dine With Me:  This Saturday the smell of Roast beef Turkey or maybe some exotic dishes will waft around the Doohamlet area as all our hosts will be entertaining their guests and we hope everyone has an enjoyable evening. Don’t forget to take photos of your evening and we hope to put all together when we meet in the local Connollys later on.
