Camogie Convention

The Annual Convention took place in the Glencarn Hotel on Monday evening last with a good turnout of Delegates present. In the absence of a Chairperson, Acting Secretary Arlene Mc. Geeney opened the meeting by welcoming Ciaran Kearney, Administration Manager, Ulster Camogie Council, Ger Gribben, Regional Development Officer, the County Executive and Club Delegates to the meeting.

After the formalities had been taken care of, Arlene delivered a comprehensive report on behalf of the Executive and in doing so thanked all who had been involved in organizing competitions or anyway involved during the year. She praised the Development Officer Marie Greenan who with Pauric Dowdall had worked tirelessly with the underage structure in capturing the Ulster U14 Shield for the County and also having them flank the Croke Park sod on the day of the All Ireland Camogie when they paraded behind the Artane Boys Band with all the other Counties.  She was mindful of the inability to fill the Chairperson and Secretary’s position since  Malachy Trainor stepped down earlier in the year due to work commitments and hoped that this would be resolved as soon as possible.

The respective Officers then delivered their reports and The Regional Development Officer Ger Gribben gave a short summary on where underage development is at. He stated that it is hoped to revive Camogie in a number of new clubs and has been helping Scotstown and Carrickmacross get started. He is running with a “Mum and Me” programme in Truagh on Thursday 15^th. November and is hoping to organize a Camogie Coaching Course for Primary Teachers in the near future which will possibly be held in Clontibret.

The new Executive was elected with most of the Officers remaining in their positions. Once again the Chairperson and Secretary’ position will be held over until the December meeting with new nominations papers being sent to clubs in the meantime.

The date was set for the 2013 meeting which will be held in the Westenra Hotel Monaghan on Monday 5^th November at 7pm. Before concluding the meeting, Arlene expressed her sympathy with all those who had died during the year and a minute’s silence was observed.
