Handball success: Congratulations on behalf of the entire club to our handballers on their fantastic success at the World Championships, where Eoghan McGinnity, Jakub Szkup and Conor McDonnell won medals. See handball notes. We will have a welcome-home reception in the clubhouse on Wednesday at 8pm. Please show your appreciation of these achievements.
Poker Classic: Our annual Poker Classic took place at the clubhouse last Friday night, with in the region of 50 players taking part. The overall winner was John McElvaney after a close race that went into the wee hours. Well done to Peter Coyle, Harry Dwyer and the organisers. Thanks to everyone who took part and helped out on the night and to our sponsors: Monaghan Bottlers, Terry’s Bar, Boylesports and Monaghan Leisure Centre.
U-15: Our Under-15s competed in the Eamon McElroy/Benny Connolly tournament in Emyvale last Saturday. Unfortunately, numbers were low on the day and our lads struggled, particularly when some players were hampered by injury. Our first game was a defeat to an impressive Galbally team, before losses to Seán McDermotts and Truagh sent our lads into the Benny Connolly Cup semi-final against Emyvale. This game produced a similar story to the previous two, as the Harps competed well around the pitch but failed to get the scores, allowing the hosts to advance to the final. Our lads worked hard in four games in quick succession, but the results showed how much work needs to be done ahead of next year’s Under-16 season. Thanks to Ciarán Mulligan, Tommy McCabe, Séamus McManus, Liadhan Treanor and the players who took part and to Emyvale for a well-run tournament.
The Harps panel was: Evan Cudden, Conor Duffy, Conor Flynn, Ruairí Forde, Conan Fowler, Darragh Hannon, David Lowry, Shane McKenna, Niall McManus, John Mulligan, James Owens, Adam Treanor, Reece Treanor.
Meeting: There will be a football development meeting in the clubhouse this Thursday at 8pm. All team managers and mentors are asked to attend.
Scór: Spraoi Scór (national school Scór) will take place this Friday (October 26) at the Seán McDermotts complex in Threemilehouse, starting at 7pm. Great work has been put in by all of the Scór committee ensuring that the club has a very strong entry. All support welcome.
AGM: The club’s Annual General Meeting is due to take place on Sunday, November 18, with the juvenile AGM set for Thursday, November 8.
Lotto direct debit: A direct-debit scheme for the Harps Lotto has been developed and forms are available at present. Contact Owen Connell or any committee member for more details. Anyone who has sold a direct-debit is asked to get the details to the Lotto committee as soon as possible, so they can be entered into our weekly draw straight away.
Mr. & Mrs.: After the success of last year’s ‘Mr. and Mrs.’ Fundraiser, it returns this year on Saturday week, November 3. We still need a few couples, so anyone willing to take part is asked to contact Liadhan Treanor at 086 7837204.
Handball: Congratulations to our three players who won four medals between them at the World Championships. Eoghan McGinnity won his gold and silver medals in U-11 Doubles while Jakub Szkup won his silver medal in the U-11 Singles. Conor McDonnell took silver in the One-Wall Doubles. Well done to everyone involved.
Congratulations: To Mark McCaughey on his recent success with the Monaghan team in New York. Rumour has it they gave him a full-forward jersey!
