Doohamlet GFC Notes
Championship Winners 2012: Doohamlet 0-12 Tyholland 1-08
At 5pm on Sunday last amid wild scenes of celebration Ted Duffy raised the Paddy O’Rourke Cup and Doohamlet were crowned Intermediate Championship winners.
An excellent first half display lay the foundation for this victory as Doohamlet went in at half time leading by 0 07 points to 0 02. Tyholland to their credit pegged us back in the second half and when they scored their goal in the third quarter it was game on with both sides level on the scoreboard.
Play flowed from end to end and the tension in the last ten minutes was unbearable as both sides fought tooth and nail for every ball and that match winning score.
Niall Johnny broke down the middle and with his right foot swung over the match winning point with time almost up. Paul McArdle deservedly won the Man of the Match award after giving an exhibition of free taking scoring eight points in all.
Doohamlet supporters swarmed onto the pitch as the final whistle sounded and as the players realised what they had achieved emotions and relief took over. (see match report)
Credit to Team Manager Dessie, his selectors Davy and Trevor and all the backroom staff who left no stone unturned in their quest for this Championship. Special praise also to this group of players, their dedication and commitment to their blue jersey knows no bounds and when people doubt them they respond in the best possible way.
We thank all our sponsors who without their support the club would not thrive and You our loyal fans who make these Championship winning days so special.
We now look forward to our league Semi-Final and our journey in the Ulster Championship of which we have fond memories.
