Truagh Notes

By michael Fri 21st Sep

Final Action: Our U-14s play in the Div. 1 final this Saturday where we play Scotstown in Clontibret at 2pm. Good luck to all players and management. All support appreciated.

Seniors: We played Carrickmacross at home in the league last Saturday and gained a long overdue win with a 3-10 to 0-11 victory. The first half was very tight, with never more than a point between the sides until the 21st minute when Neil McRory diverted the ball goalbound to put us 1-5 to 0-4 ahead. The margin remained the same at half time, with us leading 1-6 to 0-5 at the break. In the second half, Carrick reduced the margin to 2 points by the 36th minute, but a second Neil McRory goal in the 38th minute re-established a healthy lead for us. Points were further traded between the sides, before the away side scored successive points to only leave 3 points between the teams with 4 minutes remaining. However it was a goal in the 57th minute from Truagh that secured the win, when Chrissy McKenna shot to the net. Two more points were added at the end to complete the full time scoreline Gaeil Triucha 3-11 Carrickmacross 0-12. Our team and scorers were: Niall Rooney; John McCarron, Niall Feely, Justin Halligan; Rory Treanor (0-1), John Treanor (0-1), Damian McRory; Keith Sheerin, Pauric Treanor; Daniel McKenna (0-3), Paudie McKenna (0-3), Adam Treanor; Sean McKenna, Neil McRory (2-0), Mark Counihan (0-3). Subs Used: Chrissy McKenna (1-0) for Sean McKenna (HT), Niall Coyle for Adam Treanor (51mins), Paddy McKenna for Mark Counihan (59mins), Darren Todd for Justin Halligan (60mins) & Gary Todd for Daniel McKenna (61mins).  Our next senior game is at home this Saturday 22nd September at 5pm against Latton.

Liathroid Laimhe:

Mono League. We hope to have the Mono League up and running in the next few weeks so anybody who wants to play must pay direct to Frank only, you have one weekend left to do so as the committee will be drawing up the leagues. We will probably be running the games on Tuesday and Friday evenings to accommodate players who are only available at the weekend and whatever night the games are fixed it must be played on the night no exceptions.

Juvenile Registration. We have had our registration on Friday evening last and as usual it was a large number that turned up, we have our juvenile committee set up and will set about getting all the juvenile leagues and coaching sessions organised over the next few weeks, so book the alleys and get practising.

Coaching and Refereeing Course. We hope to organise a foundation-coaching course over the next few months for all beginners to the coaching scene, it will be open to all players or parents who want to get a more understanding of the game so we encourage as many as possible to take up this opportunity. And after the new year we may also run a Level 1 course for all that have already done the foundation course.

Due to the amount of Ulster, National and College games that we are getting during the year we are considering running a refereeing course so as all will understand all of the rules involved more clearly and this will also be open to both players and parents, more info to follow as we have the courses organised.

Would all players that received gardai-vetting forms please return to Kevin asap as we want to get them all away together.

Adult Blitz. We will be running an Adult Handball Blitz in St.Mellans on the day of the Fun Sports Day, we will be contacting all players and neighbouring clubs about the event when all is confirmed.

World Championships. We will be having 12 players from the club taking part in the World Championships next month in Dublin, good luck to all taking part and get training its only just around the corner. Anyone travelling to the event as players, parents, coaches or just spectators if you want check out the handball website about accommodation in the City West as some good deals are being advertised at the moment.

Committee Meetings. Could all members please make a special effort to attend all meetings, as the start of the season is always very busy trying to get all leagues, coaching and other events set up.
