Minors: The minor footballers booked their place in the championship final (our first since 2006) with a 1-12 to 0-8 win over Scotstown in Truagh last Saturday. Points from play by Evan Doherty and Benin Devlin and a brace of frees from Fearghal McMahon kept us in touch in an evenly-matched first, half which ended with Scotstown leading by 0-5 to 0-4. The first three points of the second half were all from frees by Fearghal and our lads took charge when Fearghal poked home the only goal of the game. Fearghal kept the scoreboard ticking over, before Shane Loughran kicked the insurance score. We wish Michael Galligan a quick recovery from his knee injury. The lads will play Castleblayney in the final in Clones on October 14 before the senior final.

Team and scorers: Ryan Shields; Pauric Murphy, Niall Treanor, Mustafa Gamal; Turlough Clerkin, Michael Galligan, Benin Devlin (0-1); Evan Doherty (0-1), Shane Maguire; Donal McCarthy, Conor Forde, Shane Loughran (0-1); Carl Foentjies, Fearghal McMahon (1-9, 0-8f), Jason McHugh.

Subs: Kevin Loughran for Forde (inj., H-T), Conor Burns for Galligan (inj., 32), Francis Lynch for McCarthy (38).

Recreational tournament: We are hosting a recreational/Over-35 football tournament this Saturday (September 22) in memory of deceased club members. All members are asked for their support for what promises to be a great club day, when we will be raising money for North Monaghan Cancer Treatment Support Group. Eskra, Clontibret, Scotstown, Truagh and Éire Óg are confirmed to be taking part. The day will get underway at 2pm and refreshments will be available.

SFL: The senior footballers have an important league game against Castleblayney in Oram on Saturday at 5pm. All support appreciated.

U-14: The Under-14 Division One team fell just short with a stunning comeback away to Scotstown in last Saturday’s league semi-final. The first quarter saw our lads fall 5-5 to 0-5 behind, with Jack Deery (two), Remy McKenna, Michael Mulligan and Conor Duffy getting our points. Scotstown added the first three points of the second quarter, but our lads refused to throw in the towel, as Remy hit two goals and two points and Conor added a point to cut the gap to three goals at half-time: 2-8 to 5-8. Shane McMahon kicked two fine points to get the third quarter underway and although Scotstown hit us with a sucker-punch goal on the counter-attack, a series of points from Remy and Conor gave us hope. Remy added another point in the final quarter, before Scotstown ended their scoreless run with a crucial point. Ethan Murphy crashed a shot to the net, but our lads ran out of time in the end. Nevertheless, they showed real spirit and skill by winning three of the four quarters and there should be more to come from this team in the future. Thanks to Michael O’Donoghue, Thomas McCabe, Ciarán Mulligan, physio Brian Peppard and the players for their efforts all year.

Team and scorers: Cathal Power; Thomas Croarkin, Soky John; Niall Ward, Ultan O’Rourke, Niall McManus; Paul Peppard, Remy McKenna (2-6, 0-4f); Jack Deery (0-2), Ethan Murphy (1-0), Conor Duffy (0-3, 1f); Shane McMahon (Capt., 0-2, 1f, 1 ’45), Michael Mulligan (0-1).

Subs used: Aidan Burns, Ben Kearns-Flynn (0-1f).

The Under-14 Division Five team host Scotstown in the shield semi-finals this Friday at 6.15pm.

Meeting: A meeting about a direct-debit scheme for the Harps Lotto will take place this Thursday in the clubhouse at 8.30pm. All club members are asked to attend.

Reserves: The O’Duffy Cup team await details of a three-team play-off with Clontibret and Latton for the last semi-final place in the RFL Division One.

Sponsored walk: The juvenile club’s annual sponsored walk takes place on Saturday week, September 29 and sponsorship forms have been handed out. All support welcome.

Aido file: Thanks to all who helped out with a successful bag-pack fundraiser in Fleming’s Supervalu over the weekend. All contributions, financial or otherwise, were gladly accepted! A speedy recovery to juvenile hurler Andrew Connolly, who broke his arm recently. We’ll not get into how he broke his arm but it does involve a foreign sport!!

All-Ireland tickets: Anyone interested in entering the draw for the club’s All-Ireland football final tickets should contact Club Secretary Lorcan McAdam before 8pm on Thursday.

Clubhouse: There are a number of upcoming events in the Monaghan Harps clubhouse. First up is a guest tea on October 5 (contact Seán Boyle for more details), followed by a Mr. and Mrs. (Part Two) in November. A Poker Classic and a table quiz are also being planned for the coming months. More details to follow.

Congratulations: To Peter and Niamh Coyle on the birth of their daughter, Síona.

Well done: To Hugh Coyle, who won a medal at the road bowls in Westport last week.
