Cill Laobhain 4.03 V 2.11 Carraig Machaire Rois: Saturday 1st September.
Our Under 12 squad just came up short after a pulsating hours football against Carraig Mhachaire Rois in Ballybay last Saturday. Played in quite windy conditions the result was in doubt right up until the final whistle. Cill Laobhain made a bright start and registered 1-1 in the opening 10 minutes. However some good scoring chances were spurned during this period also. Carraig replied with three well taken points and despite having the lions share of possession to the end of the first period, the Cill Laobhain side went to the break only leading by 2-2 to 0-6. On the resumption with the wind assistance Carraig took full advantage, by registering some well taken long range points. Cill Laobhain however were not going to let this game get away without a fight and got right back in it with another goal but the opposition’s ability to put points on the scoreboard proved enough to keep them in front as the game entered it’s final minutes. The game concluded in frantic fashion as Cill Laobhain threw caution to the wind and went in search of a goal that would secure them the honours but it was not to be on this occasion and Carraig ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-11 to 4-3. It was a disappointed Killeevan squad that trooped of Pearse Park but there is no doubt that success will come to this young group if the stay committed and learn from this narrow defeat. Congratulations to Carraig on their victory in what was a thrilling. Our appreciation to referee Martin McMahon, who controlled proceedings in a fair and impartial manner. His explanation of decisions to these young players should be an example to all referees taking charge of juvenile games as it should lead to a greater understanding of the rules of the game by our young players and encourage them to show the proper respect to the men in the middle. Credit is also due to Cathal Hand and his Committee for the organization of Finals Day and making it a day to remember for all the finalists. Thanks also to our Club Secretary Patrica Smyth for her assistance throughout the season and to the club members who helped out with the refreshments for all in the Acorn Centre on returning to Newbliss. The Cill Laobhain team on duty was Jamie Scott, Evin Quigley, Macayla Greenan, Brendan Reilly, Alan Corley, Orla McGinn, Seanna O’Grady, Conall Smith, Jim McGuirk, Eanna Kilpatrick. Dwayne Reavey, Aidan Doherty, Jack Corr, James Donaghy, John McDonnell..
