Doohamlet GFC Notes

Championship Semi-Final:   Doohamlet  1-10  Cremartin  1-07

In a tense and nervous game Doohamlet showed their character and greater experience to edge out our near neighbours Cremartin at a sun drenched Oram venue on Saturday last and qualify for our second Intermediate Final in three years.

Preparations were thrown into disarray last week as we suffered a number of serious injuries in the lead up to the game most notably to  Shane J. Connolly, Darren Connolly and Paul McArdle.  Great credit to Management, Physios and the replacement players who stepped up to the plate and played their part in this hard earned win. Paul McArdle to his credit played through the pain barrier and contributed 3 points and thankfully the gamble paid off.

As for the game itself Doohamlet never reached our previous championship heights and a number of scoring chances went a begging.  When Mark Murphy crashed a goal chance against the woodwork we began to think it might be one of those days.  Ciaran McManus who was impressive throughout and Colin Walshe slotted over vital points and with the introduction of Johnny Duffy and Stephen Gilsenan gave a fresh impetus to our attack.  Glen Comiskey introduced early in the game after Ollie Hughes had to retire injured got on the end of a fine move involving Jason McElroy and Johnny Duffy and crashed to the net for our insurance score in the closing minutes and our defence held firm to close out this game. (See match report)

Amid joyous scenes at the final whistle Doohamlet management congratulated the players on reaching the final but stressed that a lot of work needed to be done over the coming weeks and hopefully our injured players can return to action.

So all you supporters can get the Blue and Black flags and Bunting out over the coming weeks and look forward to what promises to be a mouth-watering clash against Tyholland.
