Senior Football.
Last weekend saw two games of football of great importance, for very differing reasons, being decided in a very similar way. Our Currin game against Scotstown and the All Ireland final were both over, as genuine contests, in the early stages. Playing under lights on Friday night, in front of our biggest crowd of the season, Scotstown, who owed us one from their championship defeat, began in whirlwind fashion and within eight minutes were 1 goal and 4 points ahead. Just like the All Ireland final the damage was done and and the result was inevitable. We play Truagh on Saturday next, still with a slim hope of keeping up. Throw in is at 5.00pm
Lights and evening fixture.
A big thanks and congratiulations to all who worked around the clock to ensure that our game went ahead on Friday night. Its scenarios like this that epitomise the spirit of community that the GAA espouses.
Juvenile and Youth.
On Saturday last our U14’s travelled to Carrickmacross to face the home side in their League Semi-Final. Previous encounters had indicated that this would be a close contest and it lived up to that billing. Led by captain Jason McKiernan we went into the lead after the first quarter. Driven on by his midfield partner Terry McEntee and forwards Patrick Poynton, Caomhin O’Neill-McDermot and Conor Beatty we went into the last quarter a goal up with some excellent scores along the way. Cian McCarney came on for the injured Patrick and kept the momentum going. Currin’s defence of Oisin McPhillips, Kevin Murphy and Cillian Martin had been resolute all day in holding out the Carrick attack. With goalkeeper Mark Murphy in top form and Sean Fay ready in the wings, things were looking good with five minutes to go. However Carricks larger panel proved decisive and we got beaten 6-08 to 5-09, a 2 point defeat in a nail biting finish. While this was a disappointing end to a great league campaign the team and their mentors can be proud of a fantastic team effort. Well done to all concerned, especially to Aidan Rudden and the management team.
