Truagh Notes

August 22nd, 2012

Final Action: We play in the U-16 Div. 2 final this Thursday, 23rd August, at 7pm against Carrickmacross in Aughnamullen. We wish the team and mentors good luck. All support for the lads welcome.

Seniors: We exited the championship to last year’s county champions, Latton, last Saturday evening in Scotstown 1-8 to 1-9.  Though a huge improvement on the previous week’s league performance, it ended in disappointment losing out by the narrowest. Another year goes by where Mick Duffy wont be boarding the bus to Truagh. We were slow to start and were 1-1 down in the 7th minute. We opened out scoring in the 10th minute through a Paudie McKenna point followed by another from Chrissy McKenna. Latton then added to their tally with a point before the game was levelled in the 18th minute when captain Niall Coyle fired to the net. Sean McKenna added a quick brace of points to put us ahead for the first time in the game in the 23rd & 27th minutes. Latton had the parting shot of the 1st half with a point to leave the half time score in favour of us, 1-4 to 1-3. The second half began with a Paudie McKenna point to put us 2 ahead. Replying with 2 points, Latton equalised, before John McCarron regained our lead in the 41st minute. Latton again equalised in the 45th minute before Paudie McKenna scored a point to put us ahead with 12 minutes to go. However in a frantic last ten minutes where both sides had several chances, it was Latton who were more clinical, outscoring us 0-3 to 0-1, Paudie again registering for us. The championship exit now leaves us with just the league to to play for, though with senior survival at stake, the remaining games will hopefully be played at this championship intensity.  Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Justin Halligan, , Niall Feely, Eoghan Kelly; John McCarron (0-1) , John Treanor, Gary Todd; Pauric Treanor, Keith Sheerin; Damian McRory, Rory Treanor, Niall Coyle (0-1); Sean McKenna (0-2), Paudie McKenna (0-4,2f), Christopher McKenna (0-1). Subs Used: Aidan Coyle for Gary Todd (21mins), Niall Rooney for Ian Treanor (30mins), Mark Counihan for Christopher McKenna (48mins) & Niall McQuillan (bloodsub) for Keith Sheerin. Our next game is scheduled for Sunday 2nd September at home to Latton in the SFL, though this is dependent on Latton’s progress in the SFC.

Reserve B: We play away to Monaghan Harps next Wednesday at 7pm in the last round of league games.
