Castleblayney Notes

Lotto – There was no jackpot winner of the lotto draw this week which took place on Monday night 20.08.2012. The four lucky dips winners of €50 each were Declan McAteer, Castleblayney, John Paul Duffy, Cairde, Brian Sherry, Cairde and Kevin O’Rafferty, Longfield. The numbers drawn were 1, 10, 21, 24. Thanks for everyone for your continued support and good luck in next week’s draw which will take place next Monday evening 27.08.12.

Seniors –  The long anticipated senior championship with Clontibret takes place this Saturday evening in Inniskeen. The game throws-in at 6.45PM and forms the 2nd half of an attractive double-header with Monaghan Harps and Latton playing at 5.15PM.

Junior B –  Last weeks’ game with Clontibret never materialised as Clontibret didn’t field.

Minors –  The Minors are safely through to the semi-finals of the championship after a good display against Killanny last Saturday. Aided by a strong breeze in the 1st half and buoyed by an early goal they established a good half time lead that was never seriously threatened. Further goals in the 2nd half from Barry Hanratty and John Beattie were the icing on the cake of a 3-12 to 0-7 victory. The final group game was against Monaghan Harps on Tuesday night, result in next weeks’ notes. On Friday night we play Killanny in an outstanding league game, Oram (7PM) and next Tuesday night face Carrick in the semi-final of the league.

Summer Camp – Last Wednesday saw the start of our annual Summer Camp, the Juvenile Committee had worked hard to insure that these young players were well catered for during the week, but unfortunately nobody can plan the weather. The weather ranged from pouring rain and glorious sunshine for the four days with Wednesday producing a real down pour. Even these conditions couldn’t stop the Camp as the children enjoyed a comprehensive non-stop programme of games and challenges starting at 10am right through to 2pm, with the key focus on FUN. The enjoyment by all     (Children and Coaches) really had to be experienced to be believed with great big smiles on all during the week. Friday was the finals of our Summer League (Separate article elsewhere) and the Faughs Summer Olympics followed by a presentation for all winners. Saturday saw our away day with the Nursery and Junior groups heading off to Iontas followed by GR8, while the Senior’s headed off to the Cinema in Monaghan followed by Games in St Mays park. Then everyone assembled in the grounds of Castleblayney College for our now famous Club Bar-B-Que which was a huge success. The Bar-B- Que is a real club day with both old and young enjoying the food and craic for the afternoon, the special guest of honour was Nudie Hughes who presented the Faughs Summer Camp Star of the week award to Kian O’Connor and the Coach of the week to Chloe Liddy O’Connor. The Summer Camp is a critical part of the Juvenile year and cannot happen without the help and support of a huge number of volunteers from coaches to parents to the  Bar-B-Que committee. It really is a great club effort, thanks to everyone who helped out in any and every way, your support is really appreciated.

U 16 – The Under 16 are now getting ready for the Championship. They play Carrickmacross on Thursday 30th of August at 6.30. Best of luck to the team and management.

U 14 – The Under 14 team played Kilanny out in St Marys park last Tuesday evening while the lads lost by 2 points they again showed a good improvement. Players to shine on the day were Kian O’ Connor in goals, Kyle Plummer, Ben McNee and Ruairi Farrell. Next up for the lads are Sean Mc Dermotts on Sept 8th.

U-12 – The Under 12 team had a disappointing weekend, the weeks summer camp appeared to take its toll as the lads ran out of steam in both Semi Final’s. First up on Saturday was the development team with Aghabog playing hosts to the lads, while there were some very good performances, the lads conceded a few goals which left them an uphill battle, but as true Faughs players they battled right to the end and had the game back to two points when the referees whistle sound for full time. While they were plenty of tears it is worth remembering that this team is made up of players who had two years left at this grade. The senior under 12 team then travelled onto Aughnamullen were they too experienced defeat versus a very strong Sarsfiled team. The lads were in the game until midway through the second half when the bigger Aughnamullen team started to show their physical strength, the Faughs battled hard but alas to no avail.  This marks the end of the Under 12 Season, the management have been delighted with the improvements made during the year with a real focus on skill development. It’s the first time that the club has fielded two under 12 teams in a very long time and this couldn’t have been done without the hard work and dedication of Mark, Dessie, Sean, Bugsy and Francis. Well done to you all.  Best on the day for the development team were Conor Mulligan, Michael Hughes, Colm Bishop and Conal Mc Hugh. For the Senior team, players of note were Francis Mc Geough, Geroid Coyle and Niall O’Connor.

Under 10 – The Faughs are due to host the Under 10 go games this Saturday in St Mary’s park, the teams that are down Carrick, Traugh, Monaghan Harps and Cremartin. All players’ parents will receive a text message for the games.

Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 – training will now take a short break for the next few weeks to allow you all to settle back into School, we will return to training in a few weeks’ time .
