Inniskeen          3 – 3

Castleblayney   1 – 5

An early Lynch goal set the pace for Inniskeen when they defeated Castleblayney in the second  round of the Royal Jade Senior Camogie Championship in O’Neill Park Clontibret on Sunday last. Experience and strength drove the Grattans who have been knocking at the Championship door these past number of years, to victory over a young skilled Castleblayney side.

Castleblayney coming in with a win under their belt from the first round got stuck in from the onset when Eileen Mc. Elroy sent a long ball in to Emma Mc. Kenna who  pulled and what should have been a textbook goal was deflected over the bar by Inniskeen goalkeeper Bernie Mc. Gahon. Minutes later Mc. Gahon saved the day when Niamh Brennan aimed at goal after cutting through the Inniskeen defence.

The Faughs who dominated the first quarter tapped another point over when Eileen Mc Elroy collected a pass from her sister, Mary.  In a repeat performance, Mary once again stamped her name on a goal in the 15th minute. Meanwhile at the other end of the park Emma Hevin was solid in defence in warding off the Inniskeen forwards and Orla Mc. Carthy was shown a yellow card for obstructing Inniskeen’s Julie Anne Finnegan.

Five minutes later Inniskeen who were living on scraps finally got their act together when Mairead Mc. Gahon sent one over the bar and Pauline Boylan handpassed into the net with a good ball in from Edel Kieran in the 23rd. minute.

Castleblayney’s goalie Roisin Mc. Kenna in the absence of Amber Lam converted a ’45 in the 25th minute and Eileen Mc. Elroy brought the sides level ,when she sent a long ball between the uprights three minutes later.   Isobel Kieran edged her side in front when she converted a free for Inniskeen just before halftime .

Once again Inniskeen were on target within 5 minutes from throw in when Isobel Kieran who earned a free sent it long into Mairead Mc. Gahon who hit the net. Both Edel and Isobel Kieran were strong in defence and with an all round performance their side took control.

Scores were hard to come by for both teams  for a long period until Julie Anne Finnegan completed the Inniskeen scoring with a point  in the 23rd. minute of the second half and Castleblayney who will regret their wasted scoring opportunities got a point 5 minute from the end when Niamh Brennan sent one over.

Inniskeen now meet Clontibret in the 3rd round  on Sunday 19th August.
