The first game of the 2012 Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship resulted in a five-point preliminary-round win for Monaghan Harps against Truagh on Saturday. Truagh raced into a five-point lead with Christopher, Pádraig and Daniel McKenna and Mark Counihan all on target, but a goal from Neil McAdam gave the Harps a boost and they were level at 1-3 to 0-6 at half-time. With the wind at their backs, the Harps pushed on in the second half to win by 1-12 to 0-10 – Niall and Donal Hahessy, Dean Fanning, Shane Smyth, Nicholas Scott and David Hughes among the scorers.

Blackhill were comfortable winners over Killanny in the opening Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship first-round match. Blackhill led by 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time and added a brace of goals in the second half to seal a 2-13 to 0-9 victory.

Clontibret moved into a share of second place in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League thanks to a comprehensive win at home to Currin on Saturday.

Tyholland ground out a narrow win over Corduff on Saturday to join Aughnamullen in second place in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League.
