Monaghan made a successful start to the defence of their TG4 Ulster Senior Ladies Football Championship title with a convincing win over Tyrone in Ballybofey on Saturday. Goals by Cathriona McConnell (who top-scored with 1-8) and Laura McEnaney helped Gregory McGonigle’s side to cuise through on a scoreline of 2-21 to 1-5.

On the club scene, Killeevan drew level with Donaghmoyne at the bottom of the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division Two when they beat the Fontenoys on Friday. Emyvale were far too strong for Truagh in Division Three, while Oram and Scotstown got walkovers from Castleblayney and Rockcorry. Clones lost their 100% record in Division Four when they were beaten by Aghabog, before Monaghan Harps won the town derby against Fergal O’Hanlons on Saturday.

Carrickmacross will challenge championship winners Monaghan Harps in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg. Under-14 Hurling League Final on Sunday after the Emmets edged past Inniskeen in Thursday’s semi-final.
