Latton GFC Notes – Week Beginning 25th June 2012

* Senior Football

On Saturday evening in Inniskeen we will play Clontibret in our first game in this year’s senior football championship, Throw in is at 8 o’ clock. The league will resume on Friday 6th July away to Carrick.

Committee Meeting

A  Committee meeting will take place tonight (Thursday) at 9 o’ clock.

U-21 Football

The year got off to a great start for our U-21 footballers with a 5pt win away to Emerald Sarsfields on Thursday 21st. We got off to a great start when Ryan Conlon scored his first goal after a great run from Shane Coyle. Damien Duffy hit a second goal to give Latton a 7pt lead with 10min of the first half remaining. Sarsfields hit back with two goals just before half time but Latton finished the half on a high note when Ryan scored his second goal just before the break. In a high scoring second half both teams kicked some great scores. When man of the match Christopher Rice scored Lattons forth goal there was no way back for Sarsfields. The Latton full forward line played exceptionally well scoring 3-9 between them. Latton 4-15  Sarsfields  6-04. V-Aughnamullen. The second game in three days was played away to Aughnamullen on Saturday evening. The first half was like the weather very bad and both teams struggled with the conditions. In a low scoring half Latton were lucky to be leading 5pts to 4pts at half time. Latton moved D Duffy to midfield for the second half where he put in a man of the match performance scoring 4pts from play. A much improved second half from Latton saw them score 11pts, ten of them coming from play. Aughnamullen o-7  Latton 0-16.

GAA Cul camp of July. Activities will run from 10.00am to 2.30pm. All children from 6 years to 13 years welcome. This is a great opportunity for the kids to make new friends and improve on all there GAA skills. Application forms from the club or local outlets. Reserve football

Things can only get better for our reserve team who suffered another defeat away to Scotstown last Wednesday evening, Losing 3-7 to1-5 at half time. We started the second half well and were only 4pts down 10 min into the second half but a strong Scotstown team hit back with some good scores to run out easy winners in the end. Scotstown 3-14 Latton 2-7. Our next game is away to Clontibret on 4th of July and home to Truagh on 11th July.

Presentation night 

In recognition of all his work in the community there will be a presentation to Gerry Naughton in Latton GAA social centre on Friday 29th June. Live music and supper served. Tickets available in Mc Elroys shop and Paddy Lynchs. For further information contact Bernie at 086-1714265.

U-16

We played Castleblayney on Thursday evening 21st. In a fast entertaining game Latton were lucky to hold out for a 1pt win. Latton 2-6  Castleblayney 2-5. We play Clontibret at home on the 28th. Training continues as normal.

U-14

After the disappointment of losing the championship final the lads bounced back with a great win against a strong Tyholland team. Latton 6-16 Tyholland 3-9. Team: D Quinn. L Quinn. C Lennon. U-8  &  U-10

Training continues Friday evenings from 6 to 7.  Any parents who are not getting text messages about training contact juvenile management.

We play Clontibret at home on 7th July, training on Tuesday evenings 6 to 7.

County minors

Well done to James and Darren who played a big part in Monaghans victory over Down in the championship last Sunday.
