Castleblayney Notes

June 19th, 2012

Lotto – There was no jackpot winner for the lotto draw this weel which took place on Monday night, the four lucky dips winners of €50 each were Martin & Mary Brady, Castleblayney, Petie Walsh, C/o The Horseman’s, Carleen McManus, Coill Darach and Sean McDonald, Muckno Street. The numbers drawn were were 1, 9, 22, 24. Next week’s draw will take place on Monday 28th June, in Sean’s Bar. June’s monthly prize has been announced as a huge hamper from Centra and don’t forget that ALL tickets bought in the month are entered in the prize draw…

O’Duffy Cup Final – The Bs put in a strong 2nd half showing to take the O’Duffy Cup for a 4th year in a row with a 0-16 to 1-06 victory over Drumhowan at an excellently appointed Blackhill venue on Sunday evening. Blayney trailed for most of the opening period and even missed a penalty but the reduction of Drumhowan to 14 men late in the half allowed Blayney to rally and go in level at the interval. Blayney stepped up the pressure in the second half to pull away and win by 7 points in the end. Captain Niall Duffy accepted the trophy amid great applause and made a great acceptance speech thanking Blackhill for the facilities, Drumhowan for a sporting game and the Blayney players for their efforts. In a busy week for the Bs they also defeated Truagh in a league game last Wednesday night and were in action again on Tuesday night against Monaghan Harps, result in next weeks’ notes

Junior C – The C’s will take on Sean McDermotts in Treemilehouse for an 8pm throw in on Friday 22nd June.

Under 21 – Scheduled match against Aughnamullen at 8pm last night (Wednesday 20th June) results to follow next week in notes and on Saturday evening they play Emerald Sarsfields (Blackhill/Oram) in Toome at 7PM.

Minor – The minors return next Tuesday night after the exam break with a home game against Carrickmacross, throw-in is 8PM in Toome.

Under 16 – The lads resume after the exam break, they take on Latton at Toome today, Thursday 21st at 7pm, and hopefully they can get off the mark this week.

Under 14 – The under 14’s played Seans in a very entertaining match on a wet Saturday morning, the Blayney lads had to field without a few regulars but still managed to put up a very strong performance. While the numbers of players at this age level are very small, there are a number of players who are starting to show good potential, some of the players to impress on Saturday were Mark Connor, Mark Hughes and Ruairi Farrell.

Under 12 Senior Team – The Under 12’s senior team opened up the league with a good win over Donaghmoyne on Friday evening in St Mary’s Park, after a tight first quarter the Faughs started to adjust to the miserable conditions and played some great football. Best on the evening were Captain David Irwin, Niall O’Connor, Robbie Hanratty and Josh Mone in goals. Next up for the lads is a trip to Inniskeen which will be a good test of our progress.

Under 12 Development Team – The development team game was called off again this week due to the inclement weather, however the lads have been busy with a game against Carrickmacross on Tuesday and another one on Wednesday versus Monaghan Harps.

Under 10 – We travelled to Killeevin on Saturday morning with three teams taking part in the Go Games, all teams played well and continue to improve. Some of the players to shine on Saturday included Conor Mulligan, Paudie Heavin, Connall Mc Hugh, Conor Mc Cooey and Brandon McCague. The next Under 10’s Go Games is at the end of the month. Training continues in the field on Thursday and Saturday.

Under 8 – The lads had a great time on Sunday evening playing at half time in the O’Duffy Cup Final versus Drumhown, while the game was only a short one, they showed to the larger contingent of Faughs supporters that they have many good years in front of them. The lads really enjoyed playing in front of the big attendance and one of our future stars was quoted as saying ” the crowd is class tonight better that the last final”. Training moves to the field next Thursday and Saturday.

Under 6 – Parents please note that the Under 6’s football is moving to the football field this Thursday at the same time of 6.00 to 6.50.

Gaelic 4 Girls – These Girls must think that the rain is not their friend, their challenge match was again cancelled as the pitch in Ballybay was unplayable. The older Girls should watch out for a very exciting day in July, more details to come over the next few weeks.

Schools Coaching Programme – The schools coaching programme which our coaches have been running in the Boys school, Junior school and Gael Scoil since September wraps up this week.  The winners of the various competitions will be presented this week.  A full report will be in the paper next week.  Again thanks to Ryan Comiskey and all the Faughs coaches who worked in the schools every week this year.

Summer Camp Registration Night – The Faughs Summer camp will take place from the 15th to the 18th August.  The registration night for the Summer Camp will take place on Tuesday 26th June in Our Lady’s Concert Hall from 7-8pm. This was a huge success last year and places are limited so all parents are urged to come along and get kids registered early.

GAA Cul Camps – Camps will take place in Castleblayney from 9th -13th July for boys and girls aged 5-13 yrs old.  Applications can be made through www.gaa.ie/kelloggsculcamps or contact co-ordinator Colin Malone 086 3515950 or Paul O Connor 086 8374827.  Forms also distributed through schools and available at club training.
