The lucky numbers drawn were 11, 20, 21, 28. Seniors – The Seniors gained a hard earned 2 points with victory over Scotstown last Wednesday night. There was never much between the teams over the hour and when Scotstown drew level in the closing minutes it looked as though the spoils might be shared but Blayney dug deep and late points from Niall Duffy and Paddy Finnegan sealed a 0-12 to 1-07 victory. The next game is against Latton this Sunday in Oram with a 12PM throw-in..
Junior B – The Bs left it late before sealing a place in the O’Duffy Cup Final when they beat Scotstown 0-14 to 0-09 on Friday night. Blayney held sway in the 1st half but a Scotstown goal early in the 2nd half put them in control and it took a late rally to book Blayneys place in the decider. Some fine points from Keith Hill drew Blayney level and late scores from half backs Damian Hughes and Brian McGuigan broke Scotstown hearts. The Final will take place on the weekend of the 17th against Drumhowan, more details next week. THe Bs were in action again last night (Wednesday) when they played Clontibret and next Tuesday night they travel to Truagh for an 8PM throw-in.
Junior C – An inexperienced C team went down 2-16 to 0-12 to Aughnamullen on Saturday. The main difference between the sides was Aughnamullens ability to take their goal chances as Blayney squandered 3 decent chances over the hour. Blayney started the better but two goals late in the 1st half gave Aughnamullen the lead and with Blayney tiring in the 2nd half Aughnamullen pulled away to win comfortably.

Gaelic 4 Girls – On Thursday evening last Blayney Faughs Girls team travelled to Clontibret to play our second challenge game of the year. Blayney had 29 girls togged out for which turned out to be a very competitive game. The Faughs started very strong with a few early scores but Clontibret battled back at the end of the first third. With the Faughs having such large number a new team started the second third and again with some fantastic defending and well taken scores the Faughs were leading going into the final third. Once again the team was changed for the final third and every one of the 29 Girls played their part in a really great game. The final score ended up in a draw as both teams battled throughout. Our next game is on Saturday next in Ballyaby at 11.00am and this is for all age groups, as we will have in excess of 40 players all parents are encouraged to attend and support the players.
U12 – Last Saturday saw our under 12’s travel to the Newry Mitchell’s U 12 Blitz. Our lads were in a tough group but a brilliant performance from the full panel saw them win their first three matches to sit joint of the table with Joe Brollys Dungiven. In the Quarter Final they met the local Burren team providing a real test for this ever improving squad. Two quick goals either side of half time saw Burren take a five point lead heading into the last couple of minutes but a real never say die spirit saw the Faughs pull the game back to a point before the referee blow for full time. Next up for the Under 12’s Senior squad is a home match against Donaghmoyne on Friday 8th at 7.30 while the Under 12 Development Squad are away to Monaghan Harps at 12 am on Saturday 9th of June.
Under 10 – The Under 10’s had a useful run out against Inniskeen last Saturday, with both teams playing some excellent football. Players who caught the eye were Odhran McArdle, Cormac Mc Cusker and Cillian Hanratty This squad have been playing lots of challenge matches over the last few weeks and it’s now starting to show as they are improving each week.
Under 8 – Go Games this Saturday in Killeevin, arrangements to follow during the week.
Best of Luck – The club would like to wish “Wee Ray” Mc Ardle all the very best as he sets out on his new adventure in Australia. Ray has been a major part of our Club for many years as a very committed player and then as the driving force behind our Juveniles. Hopefully Ray will be back to oversee more Juvenile teams in the near future.
