Seniors: The senior footballers have a league game at home to Clontibret tomorrow night (Wednesday). Please support. Just 11 days remain until the first round of the championship against Truagh on June 9 in Emyvale.

Reserves: The O’Duffy Cup team had a good win at home to Clontibret in the RFL Division One last Wednesday evening. We started well with some good points from Liam Hahessy and Paddy Connolly and frees by Gary White and Bernard Murphy, but Clontibret stayed in touch with frees throughout the first half, cutting our lead to 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time. Paddy and Liam added well-taken points early in the second half, before Liam added a superb goal. We let Clontibret back into the game once again, but a string of points by Liam, plus a score from Mark Mulhall and a long-range free by Gary White left five points between the teams in the end (1-13 to 0-11).

Team and scorers: Conall McKenna; Séamus Brannigan, Robbie Moyna, Johnny Sherry; Fionntán Cassidy, Paddy Kelly, Conor Devlin; Ronan Garvey, Paddy Connolly (0-2); David Loughran, Gary White (Capt., 0-2f), Gary Murray; Liam Hahessy (1-7), Bernard Murphy (0-1f), Mark Mulhall (0-1).

Sub: Darren McMahon for Cassidy

We fell to a heavy defeat away to Truagh on Saturday. We trailed by 2-5 to 1-2 after a first half where Liam Hahessy was our only scorer and the second half was one to forget, as Truagh found the net four times to run out comprehensive winners. A second goal from Liam, a brace of points from sub Dean Fanning and scores by Nicholas Treanor and Bernard Murphy were little consolation. Our next game is at home to Scotstown on June 13.

Team and scorers: Conall McKenna; Séamus Brannigan, Conor Devlin, Johnny Sherry; Fionntán Cassidy, Gareth Treanor, Paddy Kelly; Gary White (Capt.), Ronan Garvey; Gary Murray, Nicholas Treanor (0-1), Mark Mulhall; David Loughran, Bernard Murphy (0-1), Liam Hahessy (2-2, 0-2f).

Subs: Dean Fanning (0-2, 1f) for Mulhall (inj.), Finnian McKenna for Brannigan, Colm Shalvey for Loughran.

U-14: Our Under-14 football teams are both in action on Saturday. The Division One team are away to Clontibret, while the Division Five team make the short trip to Mullaghdun to play Fergal O’Hanlons. Both games throw in at 12 noon. The Division Five lads take on Aghabog in the championship tonight (Tuesday).

U-12: Both of our Under-12 football teams travelled to Carrickmacross last Friday for the first round of the summer leagues. The Division One team lost out, while the Division Five team drew. The next games are in a double-header at home on Saturday week, June 9.

Gavan Duffy Park: We host our first club championship match of the year this Saturday, when Clones and Oram clash in the Junior Football Championship at 7pm. All help would be much appreciated from 6pm on.

Well done: To the Monaghan senior and minor footballers who both defeated Antrim in Clones in the Ulster championship first round last Sunday. Well done also to Colin Peppard who played at half-time in the Cumann na mBunscol match.

Cúl Camp: As usual, we are hosting a Monaghan GAA Cúl Camp this year, taking place from July 9-13. The cost is €55 for one child, €45 for a second child and €40 for additional children. Full details are available on the Monaghan GAA website.

Coaching: With over 100 kids registered for our Saturday morning coaching, we need as much help as possible, so contact Una Forde at 087 6107329 if you want to get involved.

Aido File: Our U-14s kept their winning ways going with two wins at the weekend over Cootehill and Carrickmacross. Cathal Power was instrumental as usual supported by Dylan McAree, Paul Peppard and Remy McKenna. Tommy Croarkin gave his usual 125% in both games! With Seán Grant carrying an injury Ryan Connolly played well at centre half-back, despite being an Arsenal fan. Good to have Aidan Burns back in the squad too fighting fit! Our senior team begin their senior league campaign against Castleblayney tonight so best of luck to the lads.
Handball: Our handballers had a brilliant weekend away in Galway and Roscommon. In Williamstown, Co Galway, Eoghan McGinnity won the prestigious One-Wall competition when he defeated all entrants in the Under-11 grade. Eoghan’s sister Louise also competed at the same grade in the girls event. We heartily congratulate Eoghan and his family on a fine success in a national tournament. Eoghan intends to enter many more tournaments including Féile and of course the World Handball Championships in Citywest, Dublin in October. An unbelievable weekend continued at Curraghboy in Co Roscommon when Monaghan Town won the gold medal at the Community Games National Finals. The Under-13 team had a tough semi-final win over Tipperary and an even tougher win over a strong Roscommon team in the final. Well done to Cailean, Justas, Jakub and Konrad. A proud achievement for our club players!

Good luck: To all our young players and club members starting their Leaving and Junior Cert exams next Wednesday.

Clubhouse: If you are thinking of having a party or a family get-together, the Monaghan Harps clubhouse at Gavan Duffy Park, Rooskey is the place. Contact Liadhan at 086 7837204 for bookings.
