Sport and Leisure Management                          Places Limited and Early Application Necessary

As part of the training learners will complete a Certificate in Fitness Instructing and complete fitness testing, instruct exercise classes, prescribe exercise, complete national and international qualifications and gain invaluable exposure to the leisure industry during work placement.

 

Sport and Recreation Level 5 graduates may progress to a FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Sport Development or to further studies on selected courses at Institutes of Technology/Universities. Alternatively students may gain direct access to employment within the leisure industry.

 

 

Sport Coaching                                                     Progress to Carlow IT Coaching Courses    

Sport Coaching provides learners with a range of skills, resources and governing body qualifications to prepare them for a career in coaching, fitness and sports related fields. Learners will plan, prepare and implement various coaching sessions throughout a busy year.

 

Holders of a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Sport & Recreation may progress to a FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Sport Development or to further studies. Alternatively, the course is designed to assist learners who wish to pursue employment in the areas of leisure and coaching.

 

 

 

Sport and Physical Therapy                               New For 2013: Places Limited due to Practical’s

The course offers a range of modules with particular emphasis being placed on practical application in the areas of anatomy, physiology and sports massage. Work Experience forms an integral part of the course and learners are required to work within a practice to attain practical experience and application. The ITEC Certificate in Sports

Massage Therapy is designed to provide the skills and knowledge to plan, prepare and apply a range of sports massage methods to clients.

 

This course will focus on a range of sports injury related areas relevant to employment as a physiotherapy assistant. Holders of a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Community and Health Services may also progress to further studies at Institutes of Technology/Universities through the Higher Education Links Scheme.

 

 

Advanced Certificate in Sport Development             Linked with 2nd Year Entry into DKIT and Sligo IT

 

After successful completion of a Level 5 the Advanced Certificate course involves practical and theoretical sport studies. Throughout the year there will be opportunities to practice coaching skills, gain national coaching qualifications, examine nutrition, improve sporting provision in your local community and manage events, while enhancing career and further education prospects.

 

You will have excellent work opportunities in many areas of the leisure industry including; coaching, leisure facilities, recreation pursuits and health services. Holders of the FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Sport Development may also progress to further studies at Institutes of Technology/Universities. Advanced entry links (2nd year entry onto specialised Sport courses) have and continue to be developed with major providers at third level.

Please advise students that places are limited for all sport courses and that they should not leave applications to the last minute.  Also those completing a Leaving Certificate this year are advised to apply early even if this is not their first preference as otherwise the course may be over subscribed if they are unsuccessful in their CAO/UCAS etc.
