Scotstown Notes

April 20th, 2012

Senior League:

League: The 2012 Credit Union Senior Football League got under way on Wednesday evening, when our Senior team took on Monaghan Harps. The Harps began the game well with three points, before Mark Duffy got the first Scotstown point. Shane Carey (2) and Orin Heaphey registered points to put the Blues ahead, but the Harps equalised soon afterwards. Daniel McNally replaced the injured Damien McArdle just before the break, and it was McNally who grabbed the last point of the half to send Scotstown in leading 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time. The home side added a further five points in the second period through Ciaran Treanor (3), McNally again and James Hamill. However, the visitors never gave it up, and chipped away at the Scotstown lead to salvage a valuable draw. Final score: Scotstown 0-10 Monaghan Harps 0-10. The side were in action again on Sunday afternoon away to Carrickmacross. Keen to go one better than the midweek game, Scotstown started brightly and controlled the match for long periods. A man of the match performance from Brian McGinnity yielded seven points, while Kieran Hughes registered 1-2 in his first Senior appearance of the season. The home team had their chances, but Scotstown were good value for their 1-16 to 0-7 victory. With two rounds of matches complete, the team are joint third in the table, a point behind Ballybay and Castleblayney. Next up is a trip to Clontibret on Saturday evening (April 21st) throwing in at 7pm – note the change of date for this fixture.
