Results:

JFL: Aghabog 1 – 11   Eire Og 0-09

We picked up our first two points of the season with a hard earned win at home to Eire Og on Sunday. The game was in the balance throughout until a Sean O’Brien penalty midway through the second half gave us a five point cushion.

RFL Div 4: Aghabog 2-10 Truagh 0-07

Our reserve team picked up their second win on the trot away to Emyvale last Wednesday with first half goals from John McCrohan and Ciaran Logue providing the platform for victory. We were due to play table toppers Clones last night Wednesday 18th.

Fixtures:

JFL:

Juveniles:

U12s: Our U12’s have had two outings recently one on the 31st March against Corduff which we lost by the slightest of margins on a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-14 after a great team effort and then on Saturday 14th April we played Rockcorry and our young players had a great result winning on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-7. Our next outing is against Killeevan on Saturday 28th April at 12noon at home.  Aghabog U12 team: Conor McLeod, Conor Smyth, Darren Smyth, Christopher Leonard, Stephen McMahon, Ryan Gleeson, Fergal Kearns, Niall Kelly, Paul Duffy, Josh and Jack O’Hanlon, Daire O’Brien, Niall Kearns, Paudie Gleeson, Owen Mullen, Owen Casey, Michael Leonard.

Aghabog represented in Croker: In association with GAA National Coaching and Games Development and the Ulster Council Coaching and Games Committee an Activity Day for players who are 12 years of age was organised for Monaghan & 4 other counties in Croke Park. The purpose of the initiative is to give our young players an opportunity to play our national game at GAA headquarters. Christopher Leonard & Fergal Kierans represented Aghabog & experienced the thrill of playing in this special stadium. Also, another of our promising young players Jack OHanlon (representing Monaghan Harps Hurling Club) became the first Aghabog player ever to play hurling in Croke Park. Thanks to Paul OConnor GDM & John McArdle for organising this event

Sympathy:

The club would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Tony Clerkin on the death of his mother, Gretta Clerkin, Genagh. We would also like to express our sympathy to the Lee family, Cootehill & Drumbrain on the death of Martha Lee, Cootehill, wife of the late Phil Lee, Hall of Fame Recipient 2005.

Breffni Soil: Most of you will probably have noticed the mountain of top soil that is in place on Ned’s Meadow at present. It should be pointed out that this is not the stony grey soil of Monaghan and has in fact been imported from our neighbours in Cavan. It will be very interesting to see when the field is completed if Paddy Reilly has actually been right all along and if the grass really is greener on the other side.

Congratulations: Heartiest congratulations to Noel and Una McCarville and Paddy and Maura Greenan who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last Saturday night in the clubhouse. It’s interesting to note some of the other major events from 1972. A referendum is passed to ensure Ireland’s entry to the EEC, an Garda Siochana celebrates it’s 50th anniversary, Richard Nixon is re-elected as American President, Mohammed Ali fights in Croke Park, Mother Teresa visits Ireland, Alex Higgin wins the Snooker World Championship and Big Tom and the Mainliners are number one in the Irish charts – the song…Broken Marriage Vows!
