CLUB NOTES

24th January 2012

Team Manager Appointed

On behalf of the committee I would like to welcome our new team manager Jim Clifford to the club and wish him and the team every success on the playing field for the 2012 season. Jim’s appointment was rubber-stamped at a players meeting held last Friday 20th January in the clubrooms. At the meeting our chairman Jimmy McGeough remarked “we’re delighted that Jim has agreed to come on board and we hope that he will enjoy working with the club”.  He continued by saying “the club was anxious to get the best man and in my view Jim is the best man available and it’s now up to all the players to give it 110% commitment” He finished by stating “we narrowly missed out on the final spots last year and therefore we will be aiming to go one better which is well within our ability”. Addressing the players Jim outlined his expectations and stressed the importance of every player working hard and being honest. He expressed the significance of being punctual and having a high degree of discipline throughout the year. He emphasised that the club went very close last year and if you want to achieve success then all players will have to show character and be leaders. This involved making a lot of sacrifices throughout the year and indicated that holidays will be restricted to the closed season, the consumption of alcohol will need to be toned-down or taken in moderation and lifestyles will have to change. He stated that training will commence on Tuesday 7th February and looked forward to working with the players and the club.

Annual Yearbook

I want to thank everyone for their kind comments, emails and support towards this year’s annual yearbook entitled “Green Pride, It’s In Our Blood”. For those of you who are not yet familiar with the yearbook it is a pictorial storey of the ups and downs of the men wearing the green & white jersey during 2011. It is now available to buy and all proceeds will be donated towards the Irish Heart Foundation so you’re not only getting a wonderful album of memories you are also supporting a very worthy cause. If you are interested in buying a copy of the yearbook please get in touch with me or send a text message to 086-1041165 or an email to rockcorrygaa@live.ie.

Sub-Committees

There’s an old saying that says “many hands make light work” and those of you who understand its meaning will certainly agree with the statement. Unfortunately, the current workload falls on the shoulders of a few and thus to lighten the load the club intends to set-up a number of sub-committees namely Finance, Planning & Field Development, Coaching & Underage Games Development and a Social & Cultural Committee. We are on the lookout for people to take an active role and sit on one of these sub-committees. If anybody is interested in getting involved then please come forward and contact any committee member. Remember, the club cannot operate without plenty of help and we are appealing to people to volunteer their services and help spread the workload.

Juvenile Mentors / Coaches

The success of the club is built on the willingness of people to become involved and we are also on the lookout for people to help out with our various juvenile teams. The club simply cannot operate without plenty of help and we are appealing to people especially parents to volunteer their services to help out with our juvenile teams. I would also encourage current and former players to get involved and help-out to coach our underage players. You do not have to be an expert and you will be assisted by an experienced coach, so please come forward and volunteer. You may be able to spare one hour on a Saturday morning or one evening per week to supervise a training session, or even help-out at a game. Whatever you can do please come forward and offer your help as we need as many people as possible. You never know you may enjoy it and your children will certainly benefit from it.

Upcoming Coaching Workshops

Please note a workshop entitled “Fitness Testing Made Easy” will be held in Cremartin GAA club (Indoor Session) on Wednesday 8th February at 7:30pm and the tutor is Kevin McGuigan. Another workshop called “Games to Develop Football U10 /12s” will take place in Our Lady’s Secondary School, Castleblayney on Thursday 8th March and the tutor will be Macartan McKenna and is targeted at under 10/12 coaches. Both workshops are free of charge.

Club Membership

Club membership is now due once again and can be paid to our club Registrar Pat Brannigan. The annual subscription for adults is €20 with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5. With the new football season approaching it is important that ALL players pay their membership as soon as possible otherwise you will not be covered under the GAA insurance scheme. Please note that club membership will close on Thursday 31st March.

Shamrock Cup

The fixtures for this weekend’s first round of the Shamrock Cup have been confirmed. The Cremartin run competition for Under-21 inter-county teams starts this Saturday 28th January when Monaghan host Antrim at Clones for a 2.30 throw-in and Tyrone welcome Meath to Omagh for a 2.00pm throw-in. Niall McKeown has been attending training sessions over the winter months and we wish him the very best in his endeavours to nail down a place on the team. Good luck lads.

Tickets will be on sale shortly and it is hoped that people within the community will turn out in large numbers to support the club as we get ready for the 2012 season. Watch this space for more details.

To play simply select your four numbers between 1 and 28 complete the form and you need never miss a draw again! Tickets cost €90 for the 12 month option, so there is a great incentive to play.
