CLUB NOTES

10th January 2012

Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting takes place tonight Thursday 12th January at 7.00pm in the clubrooms. The annual general meeting is one of the most important meeting of the year and ALL club members are invited to attend in order to reflect on the previous twelve months and to look ahead for the upcoming year. It is also a time to elect a new management committee and to communicate with other members about how the club is functioning and therefore it is essential that as a club member you should take an active interest and participate in the affairs of the club.

“Green Pride, It’s In Our Blood”

This year’s annual yearbook entitled “Green Pride, It’s In Our Blood” will be launched at tonight’s annual general meeting. The yearbook is a pictorial account, an album of memories, that follows the ups and downs, laughter and tears, victories and defeats of the men (and boys) wearing the ‘Green & White’ jersey over the past twelve months. It also contains a selection of photographs taken from various events held over the year and I hope the images I captured will leave a lasting impression. If you are interested in buying a copy of the yearbook please send a text message to 086-1041165 or an email to rockcorrygaa@live.ie confirming your name and details.

Scór Sinsear

The Scór competition plays a significant role in promoting our Irish culture and heritage through the use of Irish language, traditional Irish dancing, novelty acts, storytelling, music and song and we should actively support it because it’s part of our association. Please note the following dates for the upcoming Scór Sinsear. Friday 17th February (Semi Final 1), Saturday 18th February (Semi Final 2) and Saturday 25th February (County Final). If anybody is interested in representing the club in any of the following events please contact our cultural officer Ollie McQuillan or club secretary Martina McKeown. (Figure Dancing, Recitation, Solo Singing, Instrumental Music, Ballad Group, Novelty Act, Question time and Set Dancing)

Strength & Conditioning Workshop

Monaghan Development Officer Marty Corey has devised a Strength & Conditioning programme and it is currently being delivered to the Development Squads. Additionally it is being implemented to a number of secondary schools throughout the county.  They are now ready to roll the programme out to our clubs in Monaghan. In order to do this, they have divided the county up into two regions and will deliver the programme over 2 nights in each region. Dates / Times:  Tuesday 17th January @ 7:30pm – 9:30pm  in St Macartan’s Monaghan. Tuesday 24th January @ 7:30pm – 9:30pm  in St Macartan’s Monaghan. They are looking for each club to nominate a maximum of 3 volunteers. If possible these volunteers should have a keen interest in Strength & Conditioning and would be motivated to implement this programme within your club. Anyone interested in attending this workshop please contact our youth officer Pascal Smyth for details.

The Power of Nature

The power of nature never ceases to amaze us and over the New Year weekend it spared no one or no thing because not even the steel uprights that support our ball stop-nets could withstand the very high winds and unfortunately were bent beyond repair. Log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie to see a photograph.

Sports Predictions

Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a sports fan? Do you consider yourself a Mr. “I Know-it-all” about different sports? If so, then step up to the mark and prove it by answering 25 sports predictions for 2012? Log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie to view and download the questions. Either email or send a hardcopy of your answers to me along with your name & address and later on in the year we will see who the biggest sports fan is!!! All correct answers will get 10 points. The Pint Sized Challenge – ‘Off the Booze and On the Ball’

Ulster GAA has backed an exciting new health challenge to its members … ‘Off the Booze and On the Ball’, which was launched in Croke Park recently. This fun challenge with a healthy twist invites participants to abstain from alcohol for the month of January and in doing so seek sponsorship to go towards their local GAA club. Participants are also encouraged to engage in some new exercises that help them reach their recommended weekly activity levels during the month, and hopefully beyond. Individuals and panel members can sign up at www.gaa.ie/asap where they will receive a sponsorship card and an information pack containing details on health, exercise and diet. Further information is also available from respective County ASAP Officers. All participating clubs will be in with a chance to win a training session with one of Ireland’s leading high performance coaches or one of the country’s leading sports nutritionists in 2012.
