Meetings: The club’s first monthly meeting of 2012 takes place this Thursday (January 12) at 8pm, preceded by the juvenile meeting at 7. All welcome to both meetings.

Charity match: All outstanding monies and sponsorship cards are due in by this weekend and a presentation is planned for the following weekend. Thanks once again to all involved and a belated thank you to everyone who provided food for the clubhouse after the match.

McKenna Cup: Well done to Conor Galligan, Shane Smyth and the Monaghan team who started their McKenna Cup campaign with a win over St. Mary’s and good luck in this Sunday’s match against Down in Clones. Well done also to Neil McAdam, who helped UUJ to beat Donegal and hard luck to David Hughes, whose DIT team lost to Kildare in the O’Byrne Cup.

Upcoming dates: The annual Monaghan GAA Awards night takes place in the Hillgrove Hotel on Friday, January 27. Tickets are on sale at a cost of €30. We will host Monaghan Arch Club at Gavan Duffy Park on Thursday, February 23. Club Officer training for Monaghan has been fixed for St. Macartan’s College on Saturday, March 10.

Membership: Membership fees for 2012, which are being maintained at €20 or €50 for a family, can now be paid to registrar Maurice Galligan c/o Cosy Bar or to Liadhan Treanor in the clubhouse.

Sympathy: We offer our sympathy to the family of James Dolan, Longford Town and Blacklion, Co Cavan, who died on Christmas Day. An Ulster minor medalist with Cavan, James went on to play for the Harps after moving to Monaghan.

Aido File: Any members of the hurling club willing or able to sell last man standing forms please contact Jack Lee as he hopes to begin the competition by the end of the month. A belated happy birthday to former hurler Mark Duffy and a speedy recovery from a recent football injury. Don’t worry about it, you’ll still be as pretty as ever and chicks dig scars!

Strength & Conditioning Training for Club Coaches: Monaghan Development Officer Marty Corey has devised a Strength & Conditioning programme for 12- to 16-year-olds and it is currently being delivered to our Development Squads. The programme will be delivered to clubs from the north of the county on the next two Tuesdays (January 17 and 24) in St. Macartan’s College.

Twitter: All Monaghan games are now being covered on the official Monaghan GAA twitter page. Don’t forget that we are also on twitter, so follow @MonaghanHarps to keep up with club news.

Notes: If anyone has any news they want included in the club notes, please email them to pro.monaghanharps.monaghan@gaa.ie by Tuesday morning.

Clubhouse: The Gavan Duffy Park clubhouse, which offers a comfortable lounge and function-room and ample car-parking space, is available to book for parties and functions, by contacting Liadhan Treanor at 086 7837204.
