CREMARTIN CLUB NOTES
Thursday 26/01/12

Paddy McVicar
On Monday last our Club and the entire County were shocked and saddened with the untimely death of one of our renowned Cremartin stalwarts Paddy McVicar.  Paddy’s death sent shockwaves throughout the Club and indeed the County as the sudden and tragic news emerged.  It was with heartfelt sorrow and sadness that our Club and Community said farewell to one of the Cremartin greats last Thursday in St Michael’s Church Annyalla.

Paddy was a true Cremartin legend in his own right and his passing evoked great sadness throughout the entire community and he will be deeply missed not just by our club but anyone who had the pleasure to know him.  His death came as great shock to his loving wife Eileen, his two sons Liam and Ryan, his mother Mamie and the entire McVicar Family.

Paddy was a true gentleman both on and off the field.  His personality captivated everyone he met and football always at the forefront of the conversation.  Paddy was a renowned GAA Player for his beloved Club Cremartin Shamrocks and indeed his County.  Paddy also played hurling with the Castleblayney Hurling team.  He was a devoted and passionate clubman in all aspects of Club life.  His love for the Cremartin Club was a true inspiration and his passion still lived on in his two sons Liam and Ryan.  Indeed his brothers Ken, Cathal and Ciaran also wore the Cremartin Jersey with pride and his brother Ciaran is presently joint manager of the Cremartin Senior Team.

Paddy’s long list of honours includes 2 Junior Championships and an Intermediate Championship; Dr Ward league medals and Hackett Cups league medals plus an array of honours in reserves and underage competitions.
Paddy won an Ulster medal for Monaghan in the U21 championship in 1981.  This was an extremely proud occasion for him and he often reminisced about the game.

Within the club Paddy managed one of our juveniles teams and was always willing to give that extra helping hand.  Other sporting achievement includes his prowess at Golf as he was a keen member of the Castleblayney Golf Club.  Tennis, squash and snooker were also sports he excelled at.  Indeed any activity including a ball Paddy was never found waiting.
He will be truly missed within our  Club and will never be forgotten.  Ar Dheis De Go Raibh A Anam.
