Castleblayney Notes

November 1st, 2011

Junior Bs – The Bs quest for a second successive double ended in disappointment last Sunday when Scotstown defeated them 0-14 to 1-6 in the semi-final. Blayney opened brightly despite playing against a stiff breeze and led by 4 points to 2 after 15 minutes with the scores coming from Brendan McElroy (2f), Jim McHugh and Adi Irwin, six unanwsered Scotstown points in the second quarter undid this good work and Blayney trailed by 4 at HT. A Ryan Treacy free in the opening minute of the second half reduced the arrears to 3 and when the same player dispatched a penalty to the net moments later the teams were level. Scotstown quickly retook the lead but another Brendan McElroy restored parity. Blayney were on top at this this and poor finishing stopped them from taking the lead but as they tired in the last 10 minutes a series of Scotstown points sealed Blayneys fate.

Junior Cs – The final game of the season, replays excepted, takes place this Sunday as the Cs play Blackhill in the RFL4 league final in Killanny at 2PM. We would urge people to come and support them, they were the first team in action in 2011 on St Patricks Day and here they are still battling for silverware in November
.
