CLUB NOTES

11th October 2011

Mount Kilimanjaro

There’s a well-known phrase that goes “you talk the talk, but can you walk the walk”. Well the time for talking is now over and during the next ten days I will see if I can ‘walk the walk’ as I set out to complete my challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation and trek to the roof of Africa’s highest point, Uhuru Peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. On a personal note, I’d like to thank everyone who supported me with good wishes over the last six months and I’ll see you all in a fortnight’s time hopefully after a successful ascent!

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League

After a lapse last weekend against Eire Og the senior team remain on course to qualify for a semi-final spot after a 1-6 to 2-12 victory over Sean McDermott’s last Saturday afternoon. In a game that seldom reached high levels of quality or intensity the lads can take a lot of encouragement from their display as they matched Sean’s in every department and were fully focused on winning and achieved that goal with a decent performance. The scene is now set for an exciting finish to the league campaign because this weekend we have an opportunity to claim fourth spot with a win against Donaghmoyne. The match is a home game this Saturday 15th October and has a throw-in time of 4.00pm. Unfortunately lads I won’t be there to cheer you and I know you have worked hard throughout the year and on that note you thoroughly deserve a semi-final position. But as we our all aware sometimes in life what you deserve and what you get are two completely different things. Always remember lads, you have the ability and skill to achieve this goal, work hard for each other, back-up each other and just go out and make it happen. All the best lads. Come Dine For Rock

There’s certainly a great buzz around the village at the moment with regards to our upcoming fund raising night, entitled “Come Dine for Rock”, because everyone seems to be talking about – Ahhhhh delicious foooood. I have also heard on the grapevine that a number of locals visited the Taste of Monaghan festival last weekend to pick up some cooking tips and some inspiration from the main man himself Neven Maguire. The competitive edge is definitely coming out in some people!!! If you’re already a fan of the popular TV show ‘Come Dine With Me’ you will know the drill. But for those of you who don’t know what we’re talking about the challenge is simple. We are calling on all club members and food lovers to create a ‘Come Dine With Me’ style event to help raise money for the club. It’s easy to do, simply host a dinner party, tea party, barbeque or any other type of foodie night.  Invite family and friends (a minimum of ten) over to enjoy a lovely meal and have a great night’s craic and in return ask your guests for a minimum donation of €10-€20 to support the club. Remember, it doesn’t have to be an extravagant five course meal or a black tie gala dinner because the choice is entirely up to you. If you’ve guests are happy with beans on toast or a boiled egg then that’s perfectly acceptable. If you would like to host a dinner party then please contact club chairman Jimmy McGeough or club secretary Martina McKeown or indeed any committee member and they will be delighted to talk to you. In addition, everyone who hosts an event will be entered into a competition for a special prize so no excuses get involved, be inspired and get that apron on and get cooking.

Darts Competition

Many thanks to Joseph Rooney who organized a darts competition in Fitzpatrick’s last Sunday evening for the Irish Heart Foundation. The overall winner was Marty Fox who beat Shane McGuirk in the final. I would like to thank Noeleen Fitzpatrick for sponsoring the trophies and Ivan McCollom, Anthony Clerkin and Kieran & Joseph Rooney for donating spot prizes on the night. Thanks folks.

Any company, individual or family that would like to place a small advertisement or a goodwill notice our annual yearbook can you please contact myself on 086-1041165.
