Planning for 2012. At the October monthly meeting the members present discussed the playing year just completed and looked forward to 2012. They debated the team management structures and examined various options for the year ahead. The systems employed by the leading clubs in the county were highlighted and a feeling was expressed that a management team from within the club itself seems to be paying dividends for some of the more successful clubs in the county.

This issue, along with other management issues will be the subject of much debate at the upcoming AGM and in the meantime the Chairman and executive members would welcome the opinions of all club members. You are invited to discuss these matters with your fellow members and then to bring your considered opinion to the AGM which has been pencilled in for early December.

Schools Finals Congratulations to the Scoil Bhride team that claimed the Cumann na mBunscol Division Five trophy on Saturday morning. A large number of parents and supporters braved the elements for the game against Glaslough N.S.

The Mullaghrafferty team had the advantage of the wind in the first half and built up a substantial lead by the half time break. As the second half began, the Glaslough team gave some hope to their supporters with a quick goal. However, a combination of some tactical switches and clever substitutions along with a number of long range points ensured that the trophy would be heading to the south of the county. The final score read Mullaghrafferty 3-12 Glaslough 1-1.

Team captain, Barry Kieran, accepted the trophy on behalf of the school amid cheers from fellow players and fans.

The team and panel along with the scorers were as follows: Matthew Kieran, Jack Doogan,  Aidan Carolan, Liam Og Murray, (0-1), Barry Kieran, (2-8),  Ryan McNulty, (1-2),  David Martin, (0-1)  Gary Marron, Jordan Duffy, Francis Lambe, Ryan Farrelly, Daniel Fox, Jack McNulty, Kyle Matthews and David McArdle.

The team had a late, hot breakfast on their return to Carrickmacross and the players and school staff would like to express their thanks to the senior club for the sponsorship of this meal.

Skills Finals. Well done to Ryan Farrelly who participated in the Cumann na mBunscol Skills Final on Saturday last in Cloghan. Despite the horrendous weather conditions, the ten leading contenders from the county put on an excellent display of the finer skills of Gaelic football.

Players soloed and scored with both feet against the clock and when the final results were collated only a few seconds separated the top five.

All the finalists received a football to mark their achievement and were encouraged to continue their skills development. The awards were presented by current members of the Monaghan senior panel, players who began their footballing careers in these same competitions.
