U-14s: Congratulations to our U-14 team who defeated Magheracloone in Cremartin last Saturday, 7-7 to 3-10, to capture the division 2 shield trophy. We got off to a great start with a point from G Treanor after only 15 seconds. Things got even better with some great play from Daniel Treanor and Garry McCaffery resulting in a goal from team captain Mathew Flood. A further two points were added by Flood and a ‘45 from McCaffery. The second quarter was played at a great pace as Magheracloone tried to get a grip on the game. But it was the Truagh defence who had other ideas with some fine saves by stand-in goalkeeper Oran McGee insuring we would not surrender the lead easily. Another goal from Gary Treanor and points from Flood had Magheracloone rocking. A number of changes were made at half time and goals by sub Eamon Connolly and man of the match, Mathew Flood, along with some rearguard defending by Shane Treanor and Ryan Mohan left an uphill struggle for Magheracloone going into the final quarter. Within minutes of being introduced, sub Francis Sherry had the ball in the net. Further goals from Sherry and Flood meant that victory was within reach. An all round team performance saw the boys win this shield final. Our team was: Oran McGee; Gary McKenna, Shane Woods; Gary McCaffrey, Shane Treanor, Niall Myles; Daniel Treanor, Gary Treanor; Pearse McKenna, James McKenna, Eric McMeel; Mathew Flood, Jamie Sherlocl. U-16: Congratulations to our under 16s team who defeated Cootehill in the league final, 3-9 to 3-5. Played in Monaghan, we raced ahead at the start scoring 2-4 before Cootehill registered their first score. Though conceding 2 goals late on in the 1st half, we were still ahead 3-6 to 2-1 at half time. With both teams now settled they continued to exchange points in the 2nd half.
