GRM Minor Football League Final
Pride of place this week obviously goes to our minor team, Rock Sarsfields, who captured the GRM minor football league division 2 title with an impressive win over a determined Killanny side last Saturday on a score-line 2-12 to 2-7. It was an enthralling game of football and as expected there was very little between the sides as both teams showed tremendous skill and passion but, ultimately, when the chips were down the lads showed admirable fighting quality and at the end of a dramatic encounter had five points to spare following a gutsy performance. There’s a well-known saying that goes “some players want it to happen, some players wish it would happen,” but in this instance the lads made it happen because ALL of them made a major contribution to this victory and it would be grossly unfair to pick-out any one individual for merit because the whole team was excellent. There were heroes on every line of the field and it was truly a team effort where all players from number one to number fifteen that started and those that came on worked tirelessly, they never gave up, played with heart and determination and battled for each other and this was reflected by the end result. At the presentation joint team captains Mark McGuirk and Christopher Kilpatrick received the cup from County Board PRO Siobhan McQuillan and I congratulate them and the entire panel on your wonderful achievement. In addition, I have to compliment the management team that includes Pascal Smyth and Jimmy McGeough from our side along with Enda Kilpatrick, Jim Graham and Adrian Thompson from the Killeevan club. They deserve enormous credit for the work they did with the team and having the lads playing together as a team. Just on a final note thank God they are better managers than singers!!! Maguire Transport Championship Semi Final Replay
It certainly has been a remarkable journey for our minor team and after the euphoria of winning the league title last weekend its back to the grindstone this Sunday 2nd October when they take on Magheracloone in the second replay of the Maguire Transport championship semi-final. The game is fixed for Aughnamullen and has a throw-in time of 12.30pm. The two previous encounters were tough and physically demanding games and this one will prove no different so you have to be mentally prepared and be ready for the challenge. Unfortunately, I will not be there to cheer you on because it’s my last training weekend before I head off to do my challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation but I will be shouting you on from the top of Carrantuohill. COME ON ROCK SARSFIELDS….YOU CAN DO IT.
Under 14 Shield Final
All the best to our under 14 team who take on Blackhill this Saturday 1st October in the shield final which takes place in Scotstown at 12.15am. The lads have played some wonderful and exciting football during the year so let’s hope they can continue their impressive form and bring home the silverware. Best of luck lads.
Come Dine For Rock
Do you loooooooove food? Do you fancy yourself as a creative cook? Do you consider yourself the next Rachel Allen or Nevin Maguire? If the answer is yes to any of these questions then throw on that apron and impress your family and friends with a gourmet feast and some fabulous food creations because it’s your turn to shine by creating the perfect dinner party. That’s right folks. You’re watched it on television, you’re heard people speak about it and I imagined you’re perused through magazines and websites for various cooking tips! Now it’s your chance because the club has come up with a unique and simple fundraising idea based on the hugely popular television show ‘Come Dine With Me’. We are calling on all budding chefs and food lovers to create a ‘Come Dine With Me’ style event to help raise money for the club. Dinner parties have never been more popular and it’s a wonderful opportunity to show off your culinary skills and hosting talents by holding a dinner party. Create your very own version of the TV show. Whether it’s a formal four course meal or, in my case, a gourmet beans on toast the choice is entirely up to you. We are looking for people to host a fun evening by inviting family and as many friends as you know (a minimum of ten) and we’re suggesting that guests make a donation of €20 and they could perhaps take along a bottle of your favourite tipple. For that extra special party night why not push the boat out and have a theme. Your guests could arrive in swinging sixties style, the groovy seventies or the funky retro styles of the eighties. The choice is yours! If you would like to take part in “Come Dine For Rock” as a host then please contact me or any committee member and we shall be delighted to talk to you.
Monaghan Electrical League Fixtures
Last Saturday our senior team travelled to play Corduff but sadly they were not able field a team and the game was cancelled. This Saturday 1st October the senior team travel to play Eire Og at 4.00pm. With three games remaining in the league campaign every point is vital at this stage of the season as four teams compete for the last qualifying position. All the best lads. The following Saturday 8th October they are on the road again when they travel to play Sean McDermott’s at 4.00pm.
Rockcorry GAA Annual Yearbook

This year we hope to include an advertisement section and any company, individual or family that would like to place a small advertisement or a goodwill notice in the yearbook you can contact myself on 086-1041165. Don’t be afraid it’s not going to cost very much so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
