ROCKCORRY G.A.A.

CLUB NOTES

20th September 2011

McGuigan Builders Intermediate Championship

There’s a Chinese proverb that states “you should never write a letter when you are angry”. In the same way, one should never write match reports when feeling annoyed and irritated. They (they being always right!) say that whenever you have a strong urge to do something under these circumstances the best remedy is to lie down or go for a long walk, cool down, and that’s exactly what I did, repeating the words “Goosefraba, Goosefraba, Goosefraba” (fans of the film Anger Management will know exactly what I mean!).  The old saying, “if you want something bad enough and work hard enough for it, it will come to you”, doesn’t always be the case because, unfortunately, there is always someone else, or in this case another team, with more desire, a lot hungrier and with a greater ambition who will win and that’s exactly what happened when our senior team played Corduff, last Friday night, in the semi-final reply of the McGuigan Builders championship. Regrettably, there was no debating who the better team was as we played second fiddle to a well-prepared Corduff side and sadly we made our exit from this year’s competition on a score-line Rockcorry 0-6 Corduff 0-13. It’s hard to know exactly what to say when something like this happens because it’s not easy to respond calmly when you’re feeling upset. We have seen a lot of good things from our senior team this year but on this occasion the lads did not play anything close to their full potential and we all know they are capable of delivering much, much more. Moving forward, the coming days and weeks will prove a huge test of our resolve and character as we compete for a top four position in the league campaign. Let’s hope we will see a much improved performance this Saturday 24th September when they travel to play Corduff at 5.00pm

Monaghan Electrical League Fixtures

On Saturday 1st October the senior team are back on the road again when they travel to play Eire Og at 4.00pm and on Saturday 8th October they travel to play Sean McDermott’s at 4.00pm.

GRM Minor Football League Final

Our minor team, Rock Sarsfields will play Killanny in the final of the GRM minor football league division 2 this Saturday 24th September. The game has been fixed for Drumhowan and has a throw-in time of 2.00pm. The lads have been involved in some classic encounters during the year and this one will undoubtedly be another exciting game of football so make sure you go along and cheer the lads on. BEST OF LUCK LADS – YOU CAN DO IT.

Maguire Transport Championship Semi Final

The second replay of the minor football championship semi-final between Rock Sarsfields and Magheracloone is now scheduled for Sunday 2nd October at 12.30pm in Aughnamullen.

Under 14 Shield Final

Well done to our under 14 team and their mentors as they recorded a great win in the semi-final of the shield competition last Saturday morning (17th September). This was a tough game of football but the lads displayed great team spirit and skill over the course of this highly entertaining match and secured the victory against a determined Fergal O’Hanlons side. The team has played some wonderful and exciting football during the year so let’s hope they can continue their impressive form when they take on Blackhill in the shield final which takes place on Saturday 1st October (time and venue to be confirmed).

Ladies All Ireland Final

All the best to the Monaghan ladies team who take on Cork this weekend in the All Ireland senior football final. Good luck girls.
