Fancy Dress Football Match

First things first, our fancy dress football match was simply pure class and despite the miserable weather conditions and all the doom and gloom surrounding the country’s financial woes one thing proved right that laughter is still the best medicine and the ultimate feel-good factor. The therapeutic benefits of laughter are limitless and last Saturday evening the spectators had plenty of chuckles and good ol’ belly laughs as local lads and lassies left their ordinary playing jerseys and togs in the gear bag and got kitted out in all sort of costumes and gowns and other accoutrements. The game had everything from macho blokes fulfilling their fantasies by dressing up in women’s costumes to various superheroes and villains and there were numerous battles going on all over the field involving Batman v Robin, Superman v Spiderman, the dark lord himself Darth Vader v King Kong (or the female equivalent!!!), Groovy Hippies v Santa Clause, Smurfette v Wonder Women, Prince Sheiks v Overweight Ladies, 118 v Nifty 50, American Footballers v The Stig, Celebrity Chefs v Jason and will definitely rank up there as an unforgettable spectacle! On the sound of the final whistle there was some confusion and speculation on which team actual won but the match official, Sean Rooney, declared the final result a draw and so folks we can all look forward to another exciting and entertaining re-match sometime in the future! Many thanks to all the participants for giving us a wonderful evening’s craic and proves that you can take a regular game of football and turn it into something special. Well done everybody.

Car Treasure Hunt

We had a total of twelve cars trying out our fun treasure hunt last Saturday afternoon and according to all reports everyone had a good time and said it was very enjoyable. There were forty-eight clues and results were extremely high with most teams scoring over forty points. A lot of the clues were quite obvious but to separate the men from the boys or the ladies from the girls some clues were made a bit more challenging. The three top teams only dropped a couple of points each and all finished on the same score and therefore the final positions were determined by the length of time it took them to complete the course. The winning team included Sean Rooney, Tina Rooney and Ann Lynch while Tracey Rooney, Keelan Clerkin, Kyle Rooney and Helen McGrath came in second place with Sammy Wilkin’s team coming in third.  It would be unfair to mention the team that collected the ‘wooden spoon’ so let’s just say it involved four footballers driving a silver van and they were last seen on a country road somewhere outside Newbliss!!! Many thanks to Thomas McCormick for setting the clues and the route and once again congratulations to the winning teams but in my mind everyone was a winner for coming out and supporting our treasure hunt.

McGuigan Builders Intermediate Championship

This Sunday 21st August all roads lead to Tyholland as our senior team take on Eire Og in round 2 of the McGuigan Builders Intermediate Championship qualifiers. The game has a throw-in time of 2.00pm. To use the words of some of the world’s greatest sporting stars, one chance is all you need, it’s not whether you get knocked down it’s whether you get back up, don’t give an inch until the final whistle sounds, because it ain’t over till it’s over and never ever LET THEM OUT EASY and always ‘BELIEVE’ ‘YOU CAN DO IT’. You can do it lads and yes you will!

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League

Our next outing in the league campaign is scheduled for Wednesday 24th August when we entertain Carrickmacross at 7.30pm.

Reserve Team Fixtures

Our reserve team are back in action on Sunday 28th August when they host Scotstown at 12 noon.

GRM Minor Football League Division 2

Our minor team played Latton last Tuesday evening in their last league game of the competition. It is important that we get a positive result because at the moment the top of the division 2 league table is really tight and with some teams having a game in hand it’s very difficult to judge where we will finish and who we will meet in the semi-finals. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for all latest news, results and updates.

Under 14 Team

Our under 14 team played Drumhowan last Saturday and while the team displayed some fine passages of football particularly in the first half it was Drumhowan’s ability to convert possession onto the scoreboard that proved the crucial difference and after playing their hearts out they lost.

Under 12 Team

Our under 12 team ended the league campaign on a high as they returned to winning ways with an outstanding display against Emyvale last Thursday 11th August and have now qualified for the final and await the winners of Aghabog v Carrickmacross which takes place this Saturday. The final is fixed for Saturday 3rd September. The boys and girls played some exciting football during the league campaign and let’s hope they can continue their impressive form in the final. Best of luck boys and girls.
