SFL: The senior footballers have a home game against Magheracloone on Sunday at 2pm. The SFC game against Inniskeen has been set for Clontibret at 5.45 on Sunday week (August 14).

Reserves: The O’Duffy Cup team lost by a point away to Scotstown last Wednesday. We trailed by 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time, with David Loughran scoring two of our points, before conceding a goal early in the second half. We managed to come back and score the next four points – two each from Ashley White and John McCoy – to draw level, but Scotstown hit a late winner to edge it by 1-6 to 0-8.

Team and scorers: Conall McKenna; Mickey Buckley, Aidan Óg McAnespie,  Fionntán Cassidy; Mark Mulhall, Conor Devlin (Capt.), Niall Clerkin; Ashley White (0-3, 2f, 1 ’45), Niall McKenna; David Loughran (0-2, 1f), Paul Kelly, Gary Murray; Finnian McKenna, John McCoy (0-2, 1f), Colm Shalvey (0-1).

Subs: Brian Driver for Mulhall (inj.), Pauric Redden for F McKenna (inj.), Jimmy Croarkin for Shalvey, Ronan McGann for Clerkin (inj.).

The Crawley Cup team return to action after a long break with a home game against Blackhill next Wednesday.

Hurling: The senior hurlers won their second piece of silverware in just over a week when they beat Clontibret by 3-11 to 2-5 in the shield final last Friday. Despite being without a number of first-choice players, the Harps raced into the lead with two goals from Alan Lee, while Maurice McKenna, Niall Flynn and Conor Curley added good points to make it 2-7 to 0-4 by half-time. Alan Ryan and Raymond Lee joined the list of scorers in the second half, as did Rory McCann, who scored the third goal to kill the game off. Clontibret got a couple of goals back late on, but the Harps had done enough to win and qualify for the Ulster JHC. The senior hurlers are away to Truagh this Thursday.

Team and scorers: James Gallagher; Ross Murray, Paul McGrath, Micheál Ó Mordha; Gavin Baxter, Alan Ryan (0-1), Patrick Hannon; Shane Smyth, Conor Cahill; Conor Curley (0-1), Maurice McKenna (Capt., 0-4, 2f), Raymond Lee (0-2); Rory McCann (1-0), Gerry Murphy, Niall Flynn (0-1).

Sub: Alan Lee (2-2) for Murphy.

Minors: The minor footballers lost away to Scotstown last Tuesday on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-9 and they are away to Truagh next Tuesday. Best wishes to Niall Greenan in his recovery from a broken collarbone and to Scotstown’s Ryan Caulfield, who suffered a serious knee injury.

U-16: The Under-16s face a play-off for a semi-final place in the Division One league after they lost to Emyvale by 2-13 to 1-11 last Thursday at Gavan Duffy Park. Despite being short a few regulars and falling four points down early on, the lads worked hard to get back into the game, with Fearghal McMahon continuing his free-scoring form. Emyvale led by 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time, but a goal by Francis Lynch brought our lads back into contention and it was score-for-score throughout the second half, with Fearghal, Jason McHugh and Kevin Loughran on target for the Harps. Emyvale struck for their second goal late on, though, finally beating Christopher McGonnell, who had made some good saves. The lads finished level with Carrickmacross in the table and will now play off for fourth place. Keep in touch with the club notes/website for details of this game.

Team and scorers: Christopher McGonnell; Mark Hetherington, James McKenna, Pauric Coyle; Ahmed Gamal, Mustafa Admed, Tiarnán Bramley; Turlough Clerkin, Kevin Loughran (0-1); James Keelaghan, Jason McHugh (0-2), Francis Lynch (1-0); David Carey, Fearghal McMahon (0-8, 3f), Niall Duffy.

Subs: John Treanor for Carey, Daniel Kelly for Duffy, Ciarán McQuaid for Keelaghan, Conor O’Neill for Coyle.

U-14: Both Under-14 football teams were involved in high-scoring games last weekend. The Division One team had a good win away to Killanny (3-18 to 1-19) on Saturday, but the Division Five team lost to championship winners Aghabog on Friday. The next games for both teams are away to Carrickmacross on Saturday week (August 13).

U-12: Both Under-12 football teams have home games next Thursday (August 11), when the Division One team play Truagh and the Division Four team take on Killeevan.

Club Harps: Our current fundraising scheme is ‘Club Harps’, which presents a unique opportunity to invest in Monaghan Harps to maintain our central place in the community.
