Truagh Notes

July 12th, 2011

Seniors: We lost at home to Ballybay last Saturday evening 0-14 to 1-13. We opened the game brightly with 2 excellent converted frees from Christopher McKenna after 3 minutes. But in a 6 minute spell, we were under repeated attack as Ballybay scored 1-5 to leave us 6 points down on the 11th minute. By the 16th minute the deficit was 7 points after another free from Chrissy but a brace from Ballybay. We then began to peg back the deficit, controlling the remainder of the half by adding 5 points from 7 scored to leave us behind at the break 0-8 to 1-9. Even though we responded with a Neil McRory point at the commencement of the second half, it was the away team who turned the score board, hitting 3 more points by the 37th minute to lead by 6. Ballybay were then reduced to 14 men and with that the momentum changed again for us. However, despite scores from Neil McRory and Daniel McKenna, we failed to catch up with the opposition score and lost 0-14 to 1-13 at the finish. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Mike Treanor, Niall Feely, John McCarron; Damien McRory, Keith Sheerin, Niall Coyle; Barry Cuddy (0-1), Pauric Treanor; John Treanor, Neil McRory (0-2), Niall McMeel; Christopher McKenna (0-5, 4f), Daniel McKenna (0-6, 3f), Mark Counihan. We went 1-2 down before the 4th minute which put us on the back foot from the start. We got the scores back to 0-4 to 1-4 in the 20th minute, notably a fine brace from Brendan Treanor, before Scotstown scored another 3 before the break to leave us behind 0-4 to 1-7 at half time. Scotstown dominated the start of the 2nd half and were 1-11 to 0-6 ahead by the 42nd minute. It was only then we played some ball for what we wre capable of. A response of 2 points before Bernard Treanor smashed in a goal in the 49th minute put the deficit to 3 points at 1-8 to 1-11. However, we never got closer than that and finished the game 1-9 to 1-14.
