Intermediate League:

Our intermediate championship came to an end on Saturday evening last when we lost to Tyholland after extra time in Ballybay. This was a game where the wind dictated team tactics and often proved detrimental to playing free flowing football. We must now knuckle down to the league and hopefully qualify for a semi-fainal spot. See match report elsewhere in this issue.

Cultural Night:

Our monthly Traditional Irish Music session took place on Friday 8th, in the complex. This was a superb night’s entertainment, where we hosted not only our own local talent, but also musicians from Corcaghan C.C.É., Monaghan C.C.É., the Éamonn Ó Muirí Branch of C.C.É. plus musicians from Emyvale and Clones.

A huge thank you to all participants, not forgetting the young singers & dancers – it truly was a night of outstanding talent.

So, remember to keep the 2nd Friday free! Next session takes place on Friday 12th August. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Camp Action:

This year’s camp action will take place in its usual month of July from the 18th – 22nd and from the 25th -29th. This is a multi sports camp run by Ciaran Murphy comprising of activities such as Gaelic Football, Soccer, Rounder’s, Tag Rugby, Hockey, Athletics, Camps got talent. Table quiz etc. Ciaran will be round the schools in the coming weeks giving out application forms, they will also be available from the Sean’s Sports Complex and the local shops. Any queries please contact Ciaran on 087-6840238.

Duck Race:

This year the juvenile committee is organizing a duck race as their fundraiser for the running of all juvenile teams.

Expenditure for juvenile teams includes jerseys, training equipment and footballs, medical supplies, bus transport, maintenance of playing fields. Also, a lot of time and effort is given voluntarily by coaches, managers, medical staff and those who wash jerseys, for which the club are extremely grateful. The duck race will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday 1st August @3pm. Over the coming week all players will be receiving a sponsorship card and as many as possible are encouraged to buy a duck for the princely sum of €2. There will be a draw over the sports weekend, and to be included a full sponsor sheet along with monies will be entered for sports vouchers.

Poster/Art Competition:

This year as part of the 50th Celebrations the club is running a poster competition for all juveniles in the parish. The poster can be any size you like.  You can select your own theme for your poster, e.g. success on the football field, club at the heart of the community, sports festival weekend, and duck race, etc, etc. The closing date for the poster competition will be Saturday evening 30th July, i.e. after the Treasure Hunt. The winner will be selected during the sports on the Sunday. Make sure you put your name on the back of the poster along with your Date of Birth. So get your pencils sharpened.

Sports Festival Weekend:

The annual festival has returned to it’s traditional date, of the August Bank Holiday Weekend from Friday 29th – Monday 1st August.  As part of the 50th Anniversary of the club, proceeds from the weekend will be donated to local groups, namely The Drumkill Daycare Centre, St Michael’s NS, St Mary’s NS and Juvenile Development within the club. Activities fro the weekend are only at planning stage, but this is what is confirmed at present.

Saturday 30th July – Car Treasure Hunt – St Michael’s and St Mary’s NS.
