Castleblayney Notes

July 19th, 2011

Seniors – The seniors are in championship action this weekend as they face Scotstown in a 1st round clash, the venue is Clontibret and throw-in is at 7.30PM.

Junior B The Junior Bs left it late before securing a place in the O’Duffy Cup Final with a 2-13 to 1-11 victory over Latton on Wednesday last. Although playing against a stiff breeze Blayney started brightly and led 3 points to 2 after 15 minutes and also squandered a couple of goals chances. Latton then had their best period of the match and five unanswered points saw them into a four point lead, crucially Blayney got the last two scores of the half to trail by just 2 at the interval. Latton continued to dominate in the early stages of the 2nd half and when they goaled they led by 6 with just 15 minutes remaining. A scrambled Brian McGuigan goal started the revival and when Ryan Treacy found the net again shortly after that the game swung in Blayneys favour and a succession of points sealed the victory. The final takes place next Wednesday 27th against Truagh in Emyvale at 7.30PM.

U21 – No U21 fixure next Monday night but they play Donaghmoyne in a re-arranged fixture on Friday 29th in Toome.

Minor – The minors were in championship action against Monaghan Harps on Tuesday night, result and report next week. Next Tuesday night they play St Pats in Toome at 19.45PM..

Muckno Mania – The poor weather didn’t dampen spirits over the weekend as the Faughs played their part in another successful Muckno Mania festival. On Saturday our teams in the triathlon performed creditably and the go games and sports day in St Marys Park attracted over 300 kids and their parents. On Saturday evening the entertainment moved to the Glencarn where Alison Mackin was part of the festival queen pageant. Sunday saw some of our braver members undertake a bungee jump to raise funds for the club as part of the family fun day at Lough Muckno. It was also good over the weekend to see former player Jason Hughes has finally found his sporting vocation – tractor pulling!

Faughs Summer Camp – Thursday last saw the launch of the Castleblayney Faughs Summer Camp which takes place on Wed 10th, Thurs 11th, and Fri 12th of August and culminates in a surprise trip away and party on Saturday 13th. The cost of the camp is €20 for the first child, €10 for the second child and €7.50 for any additional children which covers the club training top and the trip away.
