Castleblayney Notes

July 26th, 2011

Seniors – The seniors must come though the back door if they are to win this year’s championship after a disappointing 2-11 to 1-11 reverse to Scotstown on Sunday evening. Goals at vital times for Scotstown were the difference between the teams and with Blayney shooting too many wides over the hour they left themselves too much to do.

 Team: P McNally; M McHugh, M Treanor, C Brady; K Duffy, P Mallon, D Malone (0-2); C Hughes (Capt.), F Moore; P Conlon, M McElroy (0-2, 1f), P Tavey; C Hanratty (0-4), D McArdle (0-1), K Hill (0-2f). Subs: R Treacy for Tavey (37), B McElroy (1-0) for Hill (45), M Hanratty for Conlon (47), D Hughes for McArdle (58).

Junior BThe Bs played their O’Duffy Cup final against Truagh last night (Wednesday) result and report next week.

Minor – The minors gave us a scare last Tuesday night before advancing to the championship semi-final with a 3-10 to 1-08 victory over Monaghan Harps. Blayney were poor in the first half and were endebted to full back Darren Malone and free-taker David McMahon, who accounted for all Blayneys first half scores, for keeping the half time deficit to only three points. Blayney emerged a different team in the second half and overwhelmed Monaghan in the opening 15 minutes with Cailean O’Sullivan hitting the net three times to seal an eight point victory. The draw for the semi-finals on has paired Blayney against Truagh in a game to be played in late August.

Blayney Show – Reminder to all those who are going to the Castleblayney Show on Monday, 1st August to wear their Faughs jerseys to be in with a chance of winning a prize in a draw at our stand, where lots of fun and activities will be taking place throughout the day, including ‘Dunk a Legend’ – not to be missed!!!

Although up against a much more physical team we showed great character and skill to outplay our opponents for most of the match. Captained on the day by Kian O Connor it was the younger players who caught the eye such as Robbie Hanratty and man of the match Niall O Connor (2-2).The Callan cousins (Jack and Craig) up front contributed 3-5 to our final tally of 4-11.Training will continue on Wed and Fri at 5.45.
