Currin V Rockcorry at Monaghan Harps Ground on Sunday last:
Curin team as per program: Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady, Conor McCaffrey, Enda McCaffrey, Stephen Beattie, Ciaran McCaffrey, Michael Quigley, Francis O’Callaghan, Dick Clerkin (Capt), Jack McCarron, Ben Clerkin, Gerard O’Callaghan, Stephen Smyth, Gareth Beattie, Phillip O’Callaghan.  SUBS: Fir Ionaid, Waylon McEniff, Eoin Morrow, Ciaran Kierans, Patrick McDermottt,Shane O’Connor,Dara Brady, Niall McEntee, Declan Smyth, Cian North, Paul Rudden, Tommy Maguire, Aaron Jenkins, Aaron Casey. The game started with Ciaran Kierans coming on as full forward & Gerald O’Callaghan taking Stephen Beattie’s place in defence. The game quickly gathered a fast pace & Currin expected the opposition to be ready for a hard game.  Rockrcorry got the first point after two minutes.  However this did not trouble Currin who came back in a minute with a goal scored by Jack McCarron, followd a few minutes later by two points  by Gerard O’Callaghan.  Rockcorry then attacked strongly and drew level after another twenty minutes. This woke up the Currin team and they scored another three points to lead the first half by two points.  The second half started off hard and fast, unfortunately Currin’s Sean Brady had to leave the pitch with a dislocated shoulder, he was taken quickly to Monaghan Hospital for treatment, hopefully all is well by now.  Stephen Beattie replaced him.  This half continued at a fast rate and a number of Currin players went down with injuries, nothing too serious. Towards the end of the game Francis O’Callaghan had to come off and was replaced by Patrick McDermott. Currin scored a further four points against Rockcorry’s two and so ended the game with Currin 1-10 and Rockcorry 0-9.  It was a credit to the players that they played in terrible weather conditions, raining all the way through.  Currin look forward to the next round where they play Aughnamullen in the near future.
