Truagh Notes

May 10th, 2011

Seniors: Mark Counihan’s first half goal and the dry spell of weather during the game was most likely the only comforts taken from our 1-3 to 1-10 defeat to Monaghan Harps at Gavin Duffy Park last Friday evening. Counihan’s half volleyed goal in the 7th minute of this game followed by a Keith Sheerin point in the 9th minute set us up well for this game but we fell to the challenge badly for the remainder. The Harps were the stronger team for the rest of the first period but their failure to convert chances left us a point in front at half time, 1-2 to 0-4; our other point coming from a Mark Counihan free in the 28th minute. The home side took the lead in the second half after scoring two points by the 38th minute before we equalised in the 44th minute through a Noel Clerkin free. Even though the Harps lost a man through a sending off at this stage, we didn’t impress for the remainder, conceding 1-4 in the last quarter without us registering a further score to lose by 7 points in the end. Our team and scorers were: Anthony Treanor; Mike Treanor, Niall Feely, Niall McQuillan; John McCarron, Damian McRory, Niall Coyle; Barry Cuddy, Neil McRory; Eoghan Kelly, John Treanor, Pauric Treanor; Mark Counihan (1-1f), Keith Sheerin (0-1), Noel Clerkin (0-1f). Subs Used: Padraig McKenna for Pauric Treanor (38mins). Our next senior game is at home to Doohamlet on Sunday 22nd May.

Reserve Div. 1 (B’s): We earned a deserved point in a hard fought 2-06 to 0-12 draw last Wednesday away to Clontibret. Coming out of the break 0-5 to 0-3 down, we upped our game against the breeze in the second half and looked like winning the game until a last kick equaliser from Clontibret. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Mike Treanor, Niall McQuillan, John McCarron; Michael McCrudden, Paddy McKenna, Ciaran Treanor; Pauric Treanor, Gary Meehan (1-2, 1f, 1x45m); John Treanor, Paul Donaghue (0-2f), Kevin Treanor; Gary Todd, Ronan McKenna, Ciaran McCarron. Subs Used: Damian McCarron (1-2) for Ian Treanor (28mins). Our next game is on Sunday 15th May at home to Cremartin at 2.30pm.
