Truagh Notes

Carnival: We wish to thank the festival committee for the great work they carried out in making our festival a very enjoyable weekend for all our patrons. We also wish to thank all our members who worked and helped out in the running of the festival.

Seniors: We lost our first game of this year’s league campaign away to Clontibret on Friday evening last, 1-07 to 0-14. A false dawn fell upon us early in the game, when we raced into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead after 8 minutes of good football for the gaels. However, standards slipped and Clontibret got stronger, controlling the remainder of the first half, scoring 6 points without reply to leave the half time score Clontibret 0-6 Gaeil Triucha 1-2. Clontibret maintained this dominance at the resumption of the second half hitting the first 3 scores of the period to go 0-9 1-2 in front after 40 minutes. Mark Counihan registered a point to end a drought of 35 minutes without a score for us reducing the margin to a goal. Clontibret added another 2 points before John Treanor pegged a point back for us in the 48th minute. A converted pointed free from Clontibret with 8 minutes left stretched our deficit to 5 points. We staged a fight back in the last period and narrowed the deficit to 2 points with 2 minutes remaining, our points coming from a Pauric Treanor double and John Treanor. Two points were scored in the last minutes, but they fell to Clontibret who deservedly finished 0-14 to 1-7 on top. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Mike Treanor, Niall Feely, Niall McQuillan; Eoghan Kelly, Keith Sheerin, Niall Coyle; Niall McMeel, Barry Cuddy; Rory Treanor, John Treanor (0-2, 1f), Pauric Treanor (0-2), Daniel McKenna (0-1), Damian McRory, Mark Counihan (1-2). Subs Used: Alan McKenna for Rory Treanor (45mins). Our next senior game is away to Monaghan Harps this Friday evening at 7.45pm.

Reserve Div. 1 (B’s): We earned a deserved point in a hard fought 0-8 0-8 draw last Wednesday away to neighbours Scotstown. Coming out of the break 0-7 to 0-3 down, we had an impressive second half and but for a last minute equaliser from the home side we could have secured victory. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Mike Treanor, Niall McQuillan, Darren Todd; Eoghan Kelly (0-1), John McCarron, Alan McKenna; Pauric Treanor, Ciaran Feely; John Treanor, Paul Donaghue, Michael McCrudden; Gary Todd (0-1), Gary Meehan (0-4, 2f), Ciaran McCarron (0-2). Subs Used: Roan McKenna for Paul Donaghue (HT), Ciaran Treanor for Michael McCrudden (HT), Damien McCarron for Ciaran McCarron (42mins), Kevin Treanor for Ciaran Felly (50mins) & Paddy McKenna for Darren Todd (60mins). Get well soon to Darren Todd who received an injury in the game that required hospital care. We were due to play Clontibret last night, Wednesday. It is open to all U11 girls and boys and not just the list that was submitted earlier in the year. If you would like to take part in the blitz, we would ask players to be in St. Mellans between 10am and 10.15am for registration. Fixtures will subsequently be drawn up on all those in attendance at 10.15am. Good luck to all and enjoy.

Free lighting: Any seniors or juveniles wanting to keep practising can do so as natural light will provide plenty of free lighting for the next few months. It is a great way of getting some free enjoyment and valuable exercise.

Club Games: We would again ask all senior players to play all club games that are outstanding as to get the season wrapped up and avoid any back log for next season.
