Castleblayney Notes

May 24th, 2011

Seniors – The seniors gained two much needed league points with a 0-11 0-09 victory over Monaghan Harps last Wednesday night at Toome. Backed by a stiff breeze in the first half Blayney dominated proceeding with a trio of early frees from Marty McElroy setting the tone for the half. Harps held the deficit to three until the closing minutes of the half when another Blayney scoring burst with points from McElroy, Ciaran Hanratty and Darren Daly gave us a 9-3 half time lead. Monaghan gained the upper hand in the second half and had reduced the arrears to a single point with 10 minutes left but Blayney dug deep and further points from Hanratty and McElroy sealed the win. Sunday’s game with Inniskeen was postponed at late notice.

Junior B The Bs faced Magheracloone last night (Wednesday) result and report next week. On Sunday (12.00PM) they travel to Truagh and next Wednesday night they play Inniskeen in the O’Duffy Cup (B championship) in Inniskeen at 19.30.

Junior C – The Junior Cs high scoring continued on their visit to Truagh on Sunday evening when racked up a score of 6-18 in a win over the hosts, with the goals coming from Gerry Brady (3), Paddy Conlon, David McMahon and Paddy Mason. Captain for the night Aidan Lynch also contributed two points with his cultured left foot, the club would like to wish him the best of luck as he travels to the US to continue his studies.

MinorsThe minors put in a real Jekyll and Hyde performance as they beat Scotstown 2-11 to 2-08 in their final game before the exam break. After being in control for most of the game they relaxed in the second half and almost paid the penalty as Scotstown closed to within a point in the closing minutes but a brace of points, David McMahon from a free and Barry Hanratty from play closed the game out for Blayney.
