Castleblayney Notes

May 10th, 2011

Seniors – With the diggers put on hold for another week Blayneys league game went ahead at St Marys Park on Sunday but unfortunately the final game at the venue was to end in a narrow one point defeat. The game was spoiled to some extent by a strong wind blowing straight down the field; Latton had first use of the wind and led by 6 points to 2 at half time with both Blayneys scores coming from Keith Hill frees. The expected Blayney onslaught at the start of second half didn’t materialise and Latton had stretched their lead to 10-3 after 40 minutes before a scrambled Blayney goal started the fightback. Five more unanswered points saw Blayney take the lead and they were desperately unlucky not to seal the points when a Marty McElroys goal effort came back off the bar. Latton weren’t to be denied though a strong late rally saw them take the points on a score of 1-09 to 0-13.

Junior B – The Bs put the disappointment of their performance against Clontibret behind them when they played Cremartin last Wednesday night. Goals in either half from Gerry Brady and Damian Hughes were the highlights of a comfortable 2-12 to 0-07 victory. This Saturday night they face Magheracloone in Toome (7.00PM).

Junior C – The Junior Cs played Eire Og last night (Wednesday) result and match report next week.

MinorsA busy week for the minors began on Tuesday evening they faced Monaghan Harps and continues with a re-arranged fixture away to Clontibret on Friday night (7.45PM).
