Handball:

Ulster Champions: We had 3 club members crowned Ulster Champions the weekend before last: One experienced in Christopher(D) McKenna and in their maiden Ulster competition the double paring of Ryan Mohan and Aaron Mohan. Ryan and Aaron were in action in the U12 doubles Ulster final against a Tyrone pairing of Cormac Munroe and Ciaran Cuddy. Though they lost the first game 11-15, the boys regained their composure and took the second set 15-5. In a tight final decider both teams exchanged points with our boys finishing out to win 15-11. The game lasted 40 mins, for an U12’s game illustrated the tight and enduring game it was. We have no doubt this will not be the last trophy these boys will lift.

On the Sunday evening in the minor final Christopher partnered with Terry McElvaney to play Tyrone pairing, Conor McElduff and John Loughran. Being played to a full house in St. Mellans, the first game could have went either way with our boys eventually winning 21-18. Some great play was shown by all players. In the second set, Christopher and Terry’s experience showed as they won 21-7 thus securing another title for these experienced pairings. The club would like to congratulate all Monaghan players who won Ulster titles at the weekend which just goes to show the healthy state all our clubs are in.

The Div 2 will see David O’Reilly plays Fergal O’Neill, but with Fergal carry a leg injury, this final may be delayed. We hope to run both finals on the same night and will let everybody know the time of the games via texts. Double’s are now in progress keep all games played up to date.

Juveniles: We have the juveniles divided up into groups and will soon be notifying the players what nights and times they will be on. This will commence on Tuesday the 22nd of March. We hope this will give the players more handball time and will improve their skill levels.
